About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware proves that she is the “new Agatha Christie” (Air Mail) with this adrenaline-fueled thriller about a woman in a race to clear her name and find her husband’s murderer.

Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her despair, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.

Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer in this unputdownable and heart-pounding mystery that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive from an author whose “propulsive prose keeps readers on the hook and refuses to let anyone off until all has been revealed” (Shelf Awareness).

If you like Ware, you’ll like this book!

As always with Ware, the book has just the right amount of suspense for me. I love that Ware’s books are always narrated by Imogen Church.

Ok listen

It was a decent listen. However, it dragged on and was obvious early on who did it.

Exhausting

I’m exhausted. Our protagonist is exhausted. Not a bad story but hard to stay with it. The lead character could be superwoman. I need to rest.

Imogen Church is the best narrator!

Imogen Church makes every book better! This book already gets 4 stars from me, but it's made even better with this narrator.

Disappointing for Ruth Ware

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite authors and I typically love her novels - unfortunately, this one fell short!

Not my favorite Ware

Imogen Church as always was excellent, but for my taste there was too much description of the narrators physical sensations (my stomach dropped, my side burned, etc.) Interesting concept, and I liked the small kindnesses throughout but I'm hoping for a more "One by One" return to form.

Great story, elaboration too much

I absolutely love the plot and overall story. Think the book could have edited out a lot of repetitive commentary throughout.

Typical Ruth Ware

I was annoyed when I suspected “who done it” early…

Story was still great and the writing was descriptive and smart as usual. Protagonist was likable and tenacious.
