Ruth Ware
New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware proves that she is the “new Agatha Christie” (Air Mail) with this adrenaline-fueled thriller about a woman in a race to clear her name and find her husband’s murderer.
Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her despair, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.
Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer in this unputdownable and heart-pounding mystery that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive from an author whose “propulsive prose keeps readers on the hook and refuses to let anyone off until all has been revealed” (Shelf Awareness).

This isn’t it. I literally counted down the days intil this release, and I am so disappointed. It was just a lot of running around and placing one obstacle after another in a foot race to a finish line that was too long in coming (and mind you, I was thrilled at the prospect of a run time of over 13 hours before I started this audiobook), yet spotted from miles and miles away. As others have said, there was a lot of repetition of phrase and scenarios. I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Ruth Ware book, but it was boring. And to top it off, Imogen Church, normally my favorite narrator, didn’t do the uninteresting characters any favors this time. Truly, a waste of a credit I held onto just for this book.
So, so bummed

The balls to the wall intensity was kind of refreshing, as many books claim to be twisty and heart-wrenching but really are not, even if we’ll written. However, I could have used more flashbacks about the relationship between Gabe and the protagonist. They had something pretty cool, and unique, that I’d have like to read more about. The ending def pulled tears from me.. perfectly and beautifully bitter-sweet.
There were at least three pivotal “twists” that I called as soon as they were introduced. Granted, making those kinds of predictions is a game that I take very seriously! Lol
The phrase, “I felt sick”, and other various iterations, like, “I thought I was going to puke,” were way overused. I get what this was meant to convey, but there are other ways to show the varied physical and emotional nuances of situations. A death, for example, is obviously far different than a dreadfully important setback.
All in all really good “read.”
