Just too juvenile for my taste. A younger audience would love this book. Well narrated.

The timeline is fairly straight forward so why does the author give the date and time every time there is a chapter change or break in the story? As good of a writer as she is, she should be able to come up with a better way of transitioning to a different part of the story. I grit my teeth every time it happens followed by a grown and it happens quite frequently.

Closure with missing story

I loved the first two books by Harkness but this one was lacking for me. It seemed like the author wanted to bring closure to the readers and she did. The journey toward that closure was slow and not terribly eventful. It didn't draw me in and I happen to like being in the middle of the story. She promised a trilogy and she delivered it but I kind of wish I had stopped after the second book in the series. I was excited when I read that the new book was out and couldn't wait to finish the book I had started so that I could get into this one. The reader did nothing to help. All of her voices were too close to one another which made it even more difficult to advance the story.

I'm so sorry. I wanted to love it, I really did.

If it's pure porn you are seeking, then this is the book for you. I'm a lot pickier. I need a compelling story and I've read this author before and found her to write some good books. Oh how we fall....

I liked this book and I recommend it highly. I've given bad reviews, for sure but the only bad thing about this series is that it looks like it goes on forever with book after book. Reading all of them would be cost prohibitive for many. For me, I'm too stubborn to follow a series beyond a few volumes so I'll give up. The nice thing about this story is that it does not leave you with a cliffhanger where you are driven to obtain the next installment. There was no gratuitous sex or bad language so it's entirely appropriate for all ages. The reader is respected by the writer by writing an engaging book with characters they will care about and not always because they are nice people you'd like to have next door to you. You would not want the terra indigene to live next door to you. The arch of the story brings humans and terra indigene a little closer to one another, albeit grudgingly. No spoilers here. You will enjoy this book and happy reading.

I tried hard to like this series

I tried hard to like this series but a couple of things helped me decide not to pursue the rest of the series. This book could have been a LOT better if it had more adventure and activity other than a lukewarm love story. The reader didn't help. She had a beautiful narrative voice but when she did the character voice of Talia, it was inane and shrill. Worse, when she did the best friend Penny's voice, it was like scratching a blackboard. Didn't this series have a Director or Producer in the production of the audio version? Why wasn't the character voice better? The reader got it right with the male voices in the story, why couldn't she get it right in the female voices?

I could tell you about the story but I don't believe in spoilers. Suffice to say that only an eleven year old could appreciate this story but I suspect most of them are a tiny bit more discriminating. Sorry Sophie. I really wanted to like it.

Read the first book. Only okay. Read the second book.... dang, it was a rerun of the first. Same bad guys that never get stopped, never get killed, even though she is the strongest magician in history. It just repeats itself chapter after chapter. This is a love story and they string it out. I finally gave up on the third book deciding that I don't want to punish myself with all seven volumes. Romance is okay but I want a real story that moves forward and unfortunately, this one is not it. If you love romance, it may be for you.

While Pam Turlow is a good reader, she was not right for this series. Speaking in the heroin voice, she gives a performance that is older than the character. Every time she offers a nervous laugh, I cringe. She is just not speaking in this characters voice, comes across as prim and proper, and OLDER. There are books I've listened to where her talent would be just what the doctor ordered but it spoiled this book for me such that I'm not going to finish the series. Good luck to those who commence this book.

Poorly developed characters, little or no scenery, slow moving story, and I only bought it because Veronica Roth wrote it. Sorry Veronica but your characters were mostly one dimensional and uninteresting.
