Best Pendergast book in quite a while

Excellent story, so glad they opened up that storyline. I enjoyed it as much as the older ones. The narrator has improved a great deal since the last one, which was crucial especially given that Constance is a key character in the story. A strong and satisfying Pendergast installment!

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Great story, outstanding narration. Wasn't sure I would like it, but I loved it. Don't expect the typical Stephen King scare, but a great fairy tale with lots of tension and redemption.

When an author reads their own book, it can be good or bad, depending on the author. Michelle Obama did a fantastic job. I enjoyed how she told her own story without becoming too focused on her husband. I think all could learn from it if they have an open mind. Like a similar comment from another reviewer, I also listened to George W Bush read his book about his father, which was also excellent. Extraordinary lives and stories. This is my favorite book of the year so far.

Story
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

Outstanding espionage style thriller

One of the best books I have read this year. I was interested to see how Ms. Meyer did with a
non- ScyFy context and she did incredibly well. The characters were well developed, the plot solid, and perhaps the best part about the book - the tension was well managed. I listened to it on a international flight and found myself completely hooked and tense, completely immersed in the story. The only downside for me is that the author tends to over-describe some of the emotional elements but that is only my personal preference and won't ding the book for that. Strong performance by the narrator also. Strongly recommended! I hope we see another Chemist tale in the near future.

Great new series
Reviewed: 05-31-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Good series if you like mysteries with a bit of suspense. It has both male and female 'hero' leads, and the protagonists are easy to dislike since they're violent criminals and human traffickers. The author did a nice job building sympathy for Cara the female lead, while still allowing readers to be somewhat horrified by her mission and methods.
What did you like best about this story?
Good writing, with the right detail and a psychological bent. Character development overall has been good.
Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favorite?
The narration performance was good, including the portrayal of the female lead, Cara.

I've long enjoyed the Myron Bolitar series and was pleasantly surprised by this new series featuring his nephew, Mickey. As an adult I wondered if a story surrounding a teenager would keep my interest and it did. The author did a nice job writing from Mickeys perspective and kept the plot and it's characters developing at a nice pace. The narrators performance was good and kept me engaged throughout the book.

Story
Special Agent Pendergast arrives at an exclusive Colorado ski resort to rescue his protégée, Corrie Swanson, from serious trouble with the law. His sudden appearance coincides with the first attack of a murderous arsonist who - with brutal precision - begins burning down multimillion-dollar mansions with the families locked inside. After springing Corrie from jail, Pendergast learns she made a discovery while examining the bones of several miners who were killed 150 years earlier by a rogue grizzly bear.

Another Pendergast winner
Reviewed: 11-26-13
Would you consider the audio edition of White Fire to be better than the print version?
I always listen to the Pendergast books rather than read them because Renee Aubergonois' performance is always incredible. He's my favorite of all narrators (and I listen to lots of them) and I am sorry they chose not to use him for the Gideon series. That's the primary reason I haven't bought the second Gideon book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of White Fire?
I always enjoy how the authors bring myths and historical figures into their stories. I also appreciate the ongoing characters in the series and how they focus on different ones in different books.
Any additional comments?
Another great story read by a truly gifted narrator. I enjoyed the story, with some trademark elements of the series: ongoing characters, weaving in historical figures, etc. I do miss having an ongoing protagonists involved as we have had in other of the books (Pendergast's evil brother, Helen's brother, etc.). Still, I greatly enjoyed it and recommend it.
