Story
Blythe Hawthorne has never let anyone tell her what to do—not society, not her overprotective father, and certainly not the man she’s bound herself to, no matter how rude and insufferable he is. In fact, she’s determined to be a thorn in his side for the rest of her days, even as he ensures that her life in his palace is anything but a fairytale. But as Blythe discovers a new side of herself linked to his past, she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to let an unexpected spark ignite…and to discover the truth about who she really is.

Melodramatic, plotless, Christmas Special
Reviewed: 08-29-24
The male and female leads battle for who can be the most immature and bitchy throughout. There was zero plot until after hour 7 and it wasn’t even a predictable ending as the author made it obvious from page one (actually from the previous book). If you’re interested in a hallmark period drama with insufferable characters this is the book for you. Really disappointing ending to an otherwise great series.

Love this series but the narrator sucks. He makes everything sound silly and Suren is supposed to have a distinctive voice which doesn’t come across at all. Ended up abandoning the audiobook in favor of a physical one.

Story
On a bitter November evening, young Mary Yellan journeys across the rainswept moors to Jamaica Inn in honor of her mother's dying request. When she arrives, the warning of the coachman begins to echo in her memory, for her aunt Patience cowers before hulking Uncle Joss Merlyn. Terrified of the inn's brooding power, Mary gradually finds herself ensnared in the dark schemes being enacted behind its crumbling walls - and tempted to love a man she dares not trust.

It’s a story about women, women’s place in and lack of power in the world written by a woman and scholars agree that the book’s narrator is Mary Yellan so why in the hell am I listening to a man read it to me!

The first half has good if basic information but I found his scoliosis analogy offensive and the end of the book is just random old blogposts available online.
