Story
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Love Reacher's Army days
Reviewed: 12-03-23
While I first fell for Reacher as a vagabond championing folk in trouble and wreaking havoc on the bad guys, I like him much better as a soldier. This story was captivating, with a great cast of characters and a twist I never saw coming at the end.

Fun beach read

Although I didn't read it on the beach, but rather listened to it in my car. Just enough twists and turns to keep your interest, a teaser of romance and an interesting heroine.

Story
With their jobs in the spy world on suspension, all Nate and Jar wanted was a little vacation time out of the city. But not even two days on the road, their plans are hijacked by a teen’s cry. What starts out as helping the kid out of a tricky situation leads Nate and Jar into a dark world of fire and hate, of greed and corruption. As much as they might want to continue on their way, neither would ever do so. Because helping those who aren’t in a position to help themselves is Nate and Jar’s specialty.

Story
Back when Harry Bosch was just a rookie homicide detective, he had an inspiring mentor who taught him to take the work personally and light the fire of relentlessness for every case. Now that mentor, John Jack Thompson, is dead, but after his funeral his widow hands Bosch a murder book that Thompson took with him when he left the LAPD 20 years before - the unsolved killing of a troubled young man in an alley used for drug deals.

“When girls go missing here, no one says a word"...Twenty-four year old Lila has disappeared without trace. It’s the kind of case that ex-military loner Grant Fletcher would normally be happy to take on - he will always seek justice if someone has the money to pay him. But this one he’s doing for free. This one’s personal. She last called her father from a small town called Daversville, in rural Georgia. A place - Fletcher discovers as he checks into the only motel - where folks are proud to keep themselves to themselves.

I enjoyed this story of a man with grit and determination. The scary part was that this kind of thing happens, not just in some third world country but in our own. I'm looking forward to more adventures of Grant Fletcher, Ex Royal Marine and resourceful private citizen, now living in the US.

It's as big as the Empire State Building, a massive floating fortress at the throbbing heart of a US Navy carrier battle group. Its supersonic aircraft can level entire cities at a stroke. Its surveillance gear can track every target within thousands of square miles - in the air, on the surface, and under the sea. Its crew of 6,000 works night and day to keep this awesome military machine at peak performance. It's a Nimitz-class nuclear carrier, the most powerful weapons system on the planet. Nothing can touch it.

I think I would have enjoyed this story far more with a lot less of the minutiae regarding submarines, torpedoes and navigation. It was a solid story with a satisfying ending but I admit to being seriously bored and tempted to start hitting fast forward for the last 1/3 of the book. However, I enjoy George Guildall and let him read on.
