Story
Why is Miami… Miami? What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do Ivy League schools care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena. Through a series of gripping stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering

There were some excellent new examples of the tipping point but for me while others fell flat. I think the main takeaway for me is the idea of Overstory. Still, it was a solid listen.

Nic Sheff was drunk for the first time at age 11. In the years that followed, he would regularly smoke pot, do cocaine and ecstasy, and develop addictions to crystal meth and heroin. Even so, he felt like he would always be able to quit and put his life together whenever he needed to. It took a violent relapse one summer in California to convince him otherwise.

Kind of a Selfish Jerk
Reviewed: 10-15-24
I’m sure my opinion is in the minority but the main character is a selfish jerk. The amount of pain and suffering that he put his family and friends through is outrageous. You’re not a hero for overcoming something that should you shouldn’t have gotten involved with from the start. Hopefully people will read and realize what life has in store for them if they go down this path but they won’t because that’s the self centered world we live in.

Boring AF

I really don’t care about how a bunch of whiny millennials would form a government. So sick of baby boomer criticisms as well. This generation had to sacrifice, often their lives, to defeat the evil axis powers. Millennials haven’t done squat other than post what they eat on social media. Millennials can’t pry their faces away from their phones for more than 10 seconds and care about anything but themselves. Extremely disappointing sequel.

Story
Jon Ward's life is divided in half: two decades inside the evangelical Christian bubble and two decades outside of it. In Testimony, Ward tells the engaging story of his upbringing in, and eventual break from, an influential evangelical church in the 1980s and 1990s. Ward sheds light on the evangelical movement's troubling political and cultural dimensions, tracing the ways in which the Jesus People movement was seduced by materialism and other factors to become politically captive rather than prophetic.

Nothing like being lectured by someone with TDS and is in one of the least trustworthy professions in the US. There is a great deal of concern for how churches conduct business but those concerns pale in comparison to the left wing, woke cabal destroying our country.

Bogged Down with Political Bias and Worship of WEC
Reviewed: 04-29-23
The information itself is valuable but the author’s political bias became tiresome. Also, the author’s praise for the diabolical WEC is very concerning especially considering it is led by democratic socialist bent on ushering in the fourth Reich. The WEC would exploit any centralized ID system to serve its own gains.

Terrible Waste of Time
Reviewed: 03-21-23
This has to be one of the most boring books ever. The story was meh, the characters were dull and the story wasn't interesting at all. This rich vs. poor trope has been handled much better in other books with nothing new to add here. In the end, I wish this book would have remained one of the mysteries to me.
