Story
For Alisa Brimley, editor of the small magazine Christian Voice, receiving a letter from a longtime subscriber might otherwise be a perfectly normal occasion—except Stella Rode, the reader in question, writes that her husband is planning to kill her. Brimley calls upon an old wartime friend to help her investigate: retired Circus spy, George Smiley. Before Smiley can begin, Rode is found murdered, and Brimley asks Smiley to venture to the small town of Carne, home of the elite Carne School where Rode's husband is a public school junior master.

I've been making my way through all these books and I have to say this is maybe my favorite so far. I loved the incompetence of the military and the involvement of the circus. Smiley as always is a cold blooded bad ass. The writing is superb, and the narrator is also a personal favorite of mine

Story
Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

I will say that the voices and pronunciations changed during this performance. And that really is a shame, but that being said, I love this book so much! From the prologue to the very last chapter, this book kept me on edge for every minute. I really hope to see the series completed

Story
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Revisited after 10+ years
Reviewed: 03-03-25
I do believe that these were some of the last physical books I read before I came wonderfully addicted to audio books. I always enjoyed these, but like a lot of people I grew anxious and impatient for the next book. I finished reading the fifth book of the series and decided to give the show a try. The HBO show I didn't enjoy very much, and after season 3, to me, it was totally unwatchable. After watching that, I thought maybe Mr. Martin had grown bitter with what was done with his property and lost the zeal to complete this epic. I hope that's not the case, I truly hope that this series is completed. Stories like these is what keeps the life's blood of fantasy flowing.

The mood of this story
Reviewed: 01-13-25
I really liked this one, I honestly enjoyed it more than The Exorcist. The story took on an element I appreciate a lot more than just a standard possession story. I got a lot of True Detective vibes from this. The performance was okay, it definitely lacked distinguished character voices, but overall was well read. I think this will be one I revisit in the spooky seasons.

Story
More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.
