She starts out with a deep dive into how neurons and related systems function. If this is too detailed for you, I still recommend listening to as much as you can, just to establish her credibility. She really knows what she's talking about. After that, feel free to skip around and look for the relevant parts for you. I did not, as I found every last word highly relevant and useful. Thank you Dr. Ede!

I had no idea that so many details had been documented about the age of piracy in the Caribbean, an era that had always fascinated me. I know many of the names, but a lot of these episodes and the intricate details recorded by, and about, not just the big names but many minor players, were interesting and new to me.

Honestly, my biggest complaint is that he didn't read it himself, because he's a great speaker. That said, he's also a great storyteller and the narrator they hired is fine too. I'm not a big fan of him as a person or of the things he did in the past, but he's playing a vital role now in putting this out. Obviously, given his credibility issues, I take everything he says with a grain of salt, but when he's tying together public events with simple explanations from behind the scenes, it seems pretty believable. I recommend this book to anybody looking for a better understanding of how things may have played out in Trump's campaign and presidency.

I completely understand why this is a classic. His story is incredible. Also, George Guidall is one of the best narrators ever to live.

Dan Davis is a master of his chosen genre, and the only reason I haven't already read all of his books is that I need to take time to digest them in between. They are exciting, impactful, and well-crafted. This book continues the epic story of Sir Richard the immortal knight, and weaves through historic events in the Mongol empire, including the horrific sack of Baghdad in 1258. I look forward to the next one, and to all the other great books Mr. Davis will hopefully write in the future.

Timothy Snyder is a great historian and storyteller. I discovered him over the last couple of years due to his commentary on Ukraine. I prefer to hear him reading his own books, but this narrator is excellent as well, and takes nothing away from the material. I would love to hear an update on these areas from him since time has passed and the West is taking new interest as their national projects continue.

I have now made it through his complete catalog. I don't agree with him on everything, and there are even a few issues where I think he's demonstrably spreading bad info, but he knows a little bit about everything and enough about it all to offer useful insights. Ignore this man at your peril!

Timothy Snyder is one of the foremost modern historians covering European affairs. I found this book particularly timely and compelling, if not enjoyable.

I've been binging his work for five years after growing up repressed and being afraid to try it for 40 years 😆 this isn't his best ever but it's pretty darn good and I can recommend it to any fan.
