I loved it but it was soooo long. I wish it wasn't quite a drawn out. I could've had some sex cut

I recently saw a facebook ad for this and I was excited as I really enjoyed the Afterlife Saga. I'm now on book 4 and my only disappointment is that it's not on Audible yet. I am really liking the banter between Lucious and Fae. I like her geekiness, It's cute. I'm surprised by readers who left unfavorable reviews because I really am enjoying it. I think it's one of those tomato tomatoes' read reviews with a grain of salt, type of things... opinions are like a**holes, you get the idea. It's a good book.

PNR lovers rejoice a new JR Ward book is here

School for my kids began this week and I wanted to read this book,  but I also had to multi-task like crazy since I have all of them home. Oh, the new age of reading during a pandemic. Anyways, I got the audible to go along with the e-book since -yeah know -busy mom here. I've listened to several BDB audibles so it was no surprise when I found the narrator to be the same as all of the rest. His name is Jim Frangione. I prefer female narrators, but he really is very specific to the BDB series.

When I began reading this series, I found some of it felt wordy, but for some reason, my mind comprehended it much easier with Jim's hypnotic voice. After I got through the first few chapters that was all but a memory.

The story begins with Nyx a vamp, they're mostly all vamps, and she is in search of her sister who was falsy imprisoned nearly fifty years ago. Once she infiltrates prison she meets The Jackal or Jack. Jack was a tortured character if I ever read one. Jack's friends in prison all had kick-ass names and JR Ward really makes you want to find out about all of them.

As with all JR Ward books, she can write some steam and make you appreciate the vamp insta. I love that about her books. I actually find it refreshing-no nonsense- let's get ready to rumble. Nyx is a bit of a badass and I really appreciate how honest she was as a heroine. Jack on the other hand could've probably made his life a little easier if he laid it all out there.

The story does flash to Rhage and this wasn't my favorite, making this a four for me. While it worked for Alex, I found it to not have the impact I needed. At the beginning of the book, Rhage is getting icecream and he makes it seems like something horribly life-altering is going to happen and then I think the book fell flat with this.

Over-all this book is def worth the read and listen. Going into a JR Ward book, you def know what you're going to get and she doesn't disappoint.

This story is incredibly complex. With a full cast it took me a long time to understand who everyone is. Often because of the complexity of it, I found myself a little lost, like who was that again? I sometimes felt like maybe there was something wrong with me that I wasn't able to keep up, but in the end, I decided that it is the way the story was told that is hard to feel as vested and I shouldn't have to work, to understand a story.

I'm a huge Kristen Ashley fan and more than that my favorite series, including my favorite audible series is The Fantasyland Series, so when I heard she was writing a spinoff series, count me in.

The Rising Series begins with The Beginning of Everything. I didn't review this book yet and it's hard to review any of these really. The reason is because it's pretty much an episode. There are four parts to this story. You have to listen to each and they are being released within a month of each other.  This is a full cast, I think there were fourteen narrators. I've never listened to a book with such a full cast.

There are four love stories happening at once as well as a ton of other things so it skips around a lot. In The Beginning of Everything, this was confusing. I needed a map drawn out of who was who. I also thought since it was a beginning I was not able to feel fully vested with anyone character since I was merely introduced. I listened to it twice since I struggled a little with what was going on.

In The Plan Commences, you begin to see and feel their relationships more. I began to feel much more vested and I started to have some favorites. I liked so much about this book. Since it's only part two and I have two more volumes to go, I'll wait to pass my final judgment. The other thing I absolutely loved is we get to spend time with Fantasyland characters!

Dax and his dragons! Circe! Tor!
One thing I didn't care for is the villain's relationships, or I guess not villains? I did skip some of the down and dirty with the men.

This is an audio only release. It will release this Summer on e-book. Start at the Begining. Oh, and best yet, these are available in Audible Escape!

Let's start with the narration on this audio, shall we? Stella Bloom Narrates many of Ashley's books and I always enjoy her. She always manages to keep me engaged.  Lance Greenfield did the male POV. I chuckled a few times when I thought his voice reminded me of Richard Dreyfuss from Stand By Me. Overall, both narrators did a fantastic job.I'm a little mixed on my feelings of this book. First off, Kristen Ashley is my favorite author. I love her. She has a way of drawing you in even the most mundane scenes. For me, Slow Burn was a beautiful story of how two people fell in love and stayed there. I love the chemistry Ashley creates. I also love her characters including her side character. The one thing I don't completely love about this series is the formula. Both books now in this series have felt very anticlimactic. The formula seems to be, two people meet, fall in love, have lots and lots and lots of sex, and they live happily ever after. Don't get me wrong there is more to Tobie and Addie, however, I kept waiting for the shoe to drop that never did. With this series, I miss the climax. However, Ashley's unique voice in storytelling has you hooked regardless, she could write about paint drying and I'd probably be hooked.
