“Once he met her, it was and always would be Lyla.”
They were the gentlemen bad boys of rock. Forming in a garage in a small town in Indiana. Taking their licks on the road. Going balls to the wall until they made their big break.
And then Preacher McCade and the Roadmasters redefined rock and roll.
Guided by their tortured lead singer and songwriter, the Roadmasters changed the face of music in the '80s and '90s. And on their journey to becoming one of the most enduring bands in history - dogged by rumors and myth and fueled by drugs and booze - the Roadmasters had one touchstone.
Lyla.
Preacher’s muse, the love of his life, and the band’s moral compass, from the beginning, Lyla is along for the ride.
But with fame and acclaim in their grasp, they’ve entered the fast lane.
And they didn’t know it, but they were headed for a crash.

Kristen Ashley on writing Fast Lane

"My latest book Fast Lane has been brewing in my head for years, I just had no idea how the story was going to be told. I’d had an obsession with the Eagles song 'Life in the Fast Lane' and knew a brutally handsome man and his terminally pretty woman had to have a happily ever after. But with the cautionary words to the song, I just didn’t know how that was going to come about.
Then I read Daisy Jones and the Six and the two ideas merged. Rock and roll, fame, sex, drugs, money and family told through an interview style mixed with narrative. Like a Kristen Ashley novel meets a rockumentary. I was transfixed with the story and lived and breathed it until it was done. I’ve read it time and again since.
I can’t seem to leave Preacher McCade and the Roadmasters, or their muse, Lyla alone. But that’s not a bad thing. They like attention."

It’s KA so of course I had to read it right?! Right off the bat I think I knew it wasn’t gonna be my thing. It was so confusing, all of the secondary characters thrown in, trying to keep up with who’s who whewww it was exhausting. When I finally settled in and semi learned who the characters were it was much better; not that it was bad I just didn’t like the writing style or the documentary feel of it. Preacher and Lyla’s story was good but predictable; I enjoyed Lyla’s vibe with the rest of the band more than I did the “epic love story”🤷🏽♀️. This was the “Preacher & Lyla book“ but I was more interested in Jesse and DuShawn I can’t wait for their story 😊
Loved the audio 🥰

To say I was impressed was an understatement. This is far from your typical rockstar book and is told from multiple view points in style of an interview. It does include the necessary sex, drugs, and Rock n roll and all that they entail.
You become immersed in their world, invested in their lives, their pain, and their growth. And most of all- you do not want it to end. epic journey.
raises the bar yet again
