Like chatting with friends about favorite regency series. Was so disappointed though that Audible does not have all the books. I was looking forward to listening to the podcasts and revisiting each of the stories, however, goal not met, they are not here. And this was among my enjoyable stories too. Disappointed in that.

I’m having a hard time enjoying this story. It is difficult to listen too, I have to back up and listen again and again. It is the constant elevator music, sound effects playing 100% of the time in background. I have my own imagination and do not require someone to set it for me. It keeps me from immersing into the story, struggling to hear the words, enjoy the world as it was written. Worst idea EVER. Not sure I will continue the series as I might not make it through this narration. Pity that.

Could put it down

I've been following this series from the beginning. Sometimes the main character is annoying, but I have overall enjoyed the adventures and action of this world. However, this time it's going now where fast. The book starts having to throw a political dinner party. Different races involved, major war will happen if injury, insult or death occurs. So there is all this talk about what happened in the last many books, a recap (yawn) without making it interesting. And the planning for the party, clothing and jewerly. Then the party happens without much excitement, just more talking. I had listened now for 7 hours. Party just done.. So okay, so I'm waiting for something exciting to happen by now. So they start discussing and arguing about what happened to the party and needing to do the thing they are planning. And talk about it some more. . So they get ready to do this thing and here is more internal and external discussions about doing the thing. It is now 10 hours and still nothing has HAPPENED. I finally had to put it aside out of frustration. I may got back to it at a later point. Sometime.

I really enjoyed this series as a whole. My only wish is that the last few books had the attention to detail and plotting points that the beginning had. There were so many characters at the end that the personal one on one faded a way a bit and with that a tiny bit of my enjoyment. The story got too big maybe? Or needed more books to tell it all? It ended well over all and I was certainly happy with it and it is well worth the adventure if you love Sci-fi. I look forward to what else the authors kicks out.

Sigh. I'm struggling to finish this book. It has nothing to do with the narration, but the story. The constant whining about her life choices, doing what she loves vs what her duties are; complaining about pain, time, winning, dancing (the tedium of dancing numbers and cattiness of other dancers to naseum).. I have stopped and started 3 different times now, I'm So sorry to say. I might be done with this series and stick with October Daye. I love this author, but this was not a good balance of story and charactor goals. Negativity abounds. Will miss the Aislan mice. Hail!!!

The only narrator needed should have been Lorelei

So enjoyed the story, typical twisty turny Patty Briggs all the way, the timeline was just a little weird though flipping and doubling back on itself - I couldn't figure why it was necessary? Just a side note of needing to say how sorry I am for the loss of her husband, Mike, who left this world too soon. Again, the story was enjoyable. The narration choices not so much. This should have only been read only by Lorelei King. She handles all element's of the story perfectly in the last 9 books and splitting Adams voice was actually a detraction I found. The male voice was good and enjoyable, but the performance couldn't match the depth of what Ms. King could have done and so over all the bouncing between narrators jarred and detracted from the overall story immersion experience. It kept pulling me out of the book zone. I consider this a minor bump as I did enjoy it and found it well worth the credit and book experience.

After listening to one of my favorite narrators read from this series live on Facebook, I had to give it a try. So glad I did. I'm not into much hard core SF war stories, and this is not that, even though it appears that way from the outside. Once you step in, you find the characters are deep and rich in personality without a lot of extra world building data, you just slip in and are a part of it. I found the soldiers and crew so varied and memorable, that I didn't have trouble keeping track of who was who. It was smartly done. I'm invested now into the long haul of seeing how this amazing universe plays out as twisty and surprising as it started out.

I guess I have to join the bandwagon of the other reviewers on this one. Needs a new narrator, this is terrible. The voice isn't bad, it is the PERFORMANCE. It is like being read a children's story with over emphasis of words in each sentence. Over acting times ten. The narrator pulls you away from the story, instead of enhancing the total experience. It almost seems like the story is being mocked, and you are unable to submerge into universe as you are continually jarred out by the voice of hell.

The first part of this story was difficult to endure. Dark and intense - almost too much. The second part was something that was truly enjoyable and very relatable with the PNW. I was able to guess some of the future happenings, but it didn't distract from my enjoyment overall. I gave it big three thumbs up as I couldn't put it down to the end.
