About this listen

Politics are hell.

Kaylin wasn’t sent to the West March to start a war. Her mission to bring back nine Barrani might do just that, though. She traveled with a Dragon, and her presence is perceived as an act of aggression in the extremely hostile world of Barrani-Dragon politics. Internal Barrani politics are no less deadly, and Kaylin has managed - barely - to help the rescued Barrani evade both death and captivity at the hands of the Consort.

Before the unplanned “visit” to the West March, Kaylin invited the Consort to dinner. For obvious reasons, Kaylin wants to cancel dinner - forever. But the Consort is going to show up at the front door at the agreed-upon time. The fact that she tried to imprison Kaylin’s guests doesn’t matter at all...to her.

A private Barrani hell, built of shadow and malice, exists beneath the high halls. It is the High Court’s duty to jail the creature at its heart - even if it means Barrani victims are locked in the cage with it. The Consort is willing to do almost anything to free the trapped and end their eternal torment. She needs the help of Kaylin’s houseguests - and Kaylin herself. Failure won’t be death - it will be hell. That’s where Kaylin is going.

From beginning to end I enjoyed this book. Love how Kaylin is growing more mature.

I could not stop listening until the end of the story! Had to force myself to go to sleep and continued to listen as soon as I got up.

Riveting!

Loved it!

loved this book! when will they make the series into a movie series? I re-listen to this series so often that if it were a CD it would warp from being played so often.

best series ever!

I adore the pairing of Michelle Sagara’s universe with Khristine Ivan’s vocal performance. I’ve listened to their audiobooks every time since I was first introduced to the Cast series several years ago.

On one hand, I am super grateful for every foray into the worlds, and if the series eventually ends I will be sad to see it go. On the other hand, for crying out loud, it’s been over a decade or something and it feels like we’re still a long ways from resolution. I wonder if some of the threads will ever be resolved or if we’ll just have an abrupt end to it, and then I’ll be royally upset.

I was a die-hard fan for years and even ran a website with some other fans, but my enthusiasm had considerably waned. Then I listen to the story and remember why I loved her so much. (Them, since Khristine and Michelle make their own magic in this audio partnership.)

Another fantastic story from Michelle Sagara

I enjoy this series so much and Khristine Hvam's performance of the characters that I always relisted to the books before the release of each new book by Michelle. I enjoy her main character and laugh at the "But" that is her favorite word. I wish I could see this series published in a graphic novel. Hint! Hint! It would be awesome!

One of my favorite series!

This story has intrigue me since book one. Unfortunately the last few have gotten repetitive. The main character is still everyone’s doormat. Even though she has been the Worlds Savior. She still gets no respect and she still let everyone walk all over her. Not much happens in this book. Not sure I will bother with the last which is very sad because I’ve enjoyed the series.

A lot about nothing.

same setup as always, spends 10% of the book retelling the last book, 75% trying to avoid what we all know is gonna happen and the last 15% rushing through the action predicted in the beginning.

yet despite this I'm still compelled to get the next one

not Sagara's best work

I don't want to give anything away, but of all of the books so far, I find this one to be incredibly moving!

Another fantastic audiobook in a fantastic series!

I started out listening to this series the years ago and binge listened to the first five books in a week now I'm hooked. kaylin is a wonderful character that had grown and adapted with each book. ive been going to learn more about the cohort since the were introduced in the green. now understanding some of who they ste and where they come from I can't wait to see where they're lives and kaylin's intertwine. this is a must listen list but stores for me and I wish I had stretched out this book but as always I loved the narration and couldn't stop but to sleep. can't wait for more the wait is already killing me

another wonderful listen
