Story
Before Co-founder and CEO Sharon K. Gillenwater exited Boardroom Insiders for 25M dollars in 2022, she was a kid growing up in the turbulent '70s in sleepy Ocean Beach, California. A voracious reader and deep thinker often at odds with her working-class parents, she was determined to break from her surroundings—though she never thought her dreams would take her to the top of the tech food chain.

Story
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

Great framework for dealing and solving problems with explosive and non explosive kids.
CPS. Identify when the explosions happen, Gathering information, understand the problem, validated and come up with a realistic solution together that is mutually satisfactory for both parties. Great framework to continue revisiting.

Story
There is no bigger public health story now than the collapse in youth mental health. The numbers are terrifying and dominate our headlines. There has been much debate over how we got here, and what to do next, and bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt is at the white-hot center of that discourse. Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth into the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for Gen Z.

The most important read for our generation
Reviewed: 07-10-24
This is the most important read as a parent of young children born into the generations of an over digitalized world. He gave some very important safeguards for protecting your children, empowering them, and helping them learn and grow to their full potential. He brought up some very alarming statistics about technology use for youth and children, and gave practical and hopeful solutions for helping our kids.
My takeaways from the book that I will use with my own kids:
1. Limiting the access of kids to age appropriate sites
2. Keeping social media and smart phones away from kids until the age of 16 and 100% avoiding around or before puberty
3. Giving our kids age appropriate freedom, autonomy, responsibility and trust.
4. Not over protecting our kids in areas of independence and free play and under protecting in screen time
5. Give more free play and in person social interaction
6. Give kids responsibility and work so they learn the value of their contributions
7. Send our kids away to screen free places like summer camps
8. Play with them more!
9. Go camping more and be in nature
10. Send them on errands out of the house when they are bored, even if you don’t need anything
11. Have reliable routines in the day without screen time: eating, family play and connection times

Story
There's no shortage of networking and entrepreneurship advice in books and on social media in today's world-but it's harder than ever to know what's authentic. To make matters worse, taking the wrong advice can result in superficial connections, transactional relationships, and unsatisfying interactions with others without any real rapport. Fortunately, as entrepreneur and marketer extraordinaire Joe Polish has discovered, there's a simple (though sometimes not easy) way out that begins with one question: "What's in it for them?"

Story
Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

Know when to quit and when to persevere

Know when to quit and when to persevere.
Seth Godin demonstrates the value of pushing through the dip, which is the hardest part that most people will drop off at. It is what is required to be the best in the industry and to be very successful.
He stresses knowing when you will quit, and knowing that you are able to make it through the dip before you even start something. He differentiates between a dip, a cul-de-sac, and a cliff. The cul-de-sac is your comfort zone that is not making you stretch, the dip is that last minute of muscle building that is required, the intense discomfort that most people are unwilling to do, which is why most people don’t have an eight pack. And then he talked about the cliff, which is a project, relationship, job, etc that is headed for imminent for failure. Quitting the cliffs deliberately is just as important as sticking through the dips. He Explained how the people that are at the top of their game were not overnight successes, but pushed through the dip for quite some time to get a breakthrough. Pushing through the dip is one of your greatest competitive advantages.
Insightful read. Short, and to the point with all the necessary details packed in.
