Not my thing. Lots of gift purchasing and conversations about buying said gifts. This story would play out well as a Hallmark Christmas movie. Hopefully the next is better.

Quick paced and sweet
Reviewed: 08-18-21
Set in Victorian England in a magical world we are introduced to our protagonist, who has been assigned to paper magic as her path in magic. The man she studies under is mysterious and sweet. One night he is gravely attacked with a forbidden magic by our antagonist, setting the stage for our main character to set out on a quest with what little knowledge she has of paper magic. Amy McFadden does an excellent job narrating the story making it quite amusing and entertaining. I believe anyone who is a fan of light hearted fantasy/magic themed books would enjoy it. Just don't expect it to be a deeply profound read, it's not Shakespeare.

I am on the third episode and I am enjoying this. The books that have been chosen are not what I would choose on my own but I am not complaining. Exactly what I needed out of a book club conversationally speaking. I hope more episode are made.

The Vignes twin sisters will always be identical. But after growing up together in a small, Southern Black community and running away at age 16, it's not just the shape of their daily lives that is different as adults, it's everything: Their families, their communities, their racial identities. Many years later, one sister lives with her Black daughter in the same Southern town she once tried to escape. The other secretly passes for White, and her White husband knows nothing of her past.

Unexpected story path, would like more closure.
Reviewed: 01-05-21
I was expecting this story to be solely about racial identity, but it ran through many interpretations of identity. I felt like it was well written enough to allow the reader to picture the characters, live in their minds and the scenery they inhabited. My problems with the book were that it seemed to jump in the timelines and seemed like a rushed and had an endinding that lacked closure. It is a story I wish there were more to read about the characters. I may have to read another book by this author.

Story
Lane Moore is a rare performer who is as impressive onstage - whether hosting her iconic show Tinder Live or being the enigmatic front woman of It Was Romance - as she is on the page, as both a former writer for The Onion and an award-winning sex and relationships editor for Cosmopolitan. But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had.
