I had a plan to escape the friend zone. Step one: sneak into Reed’s room. Step two: sleep with him. But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw. These were dark, angry, and full of demons. And they belonged to Reed’s much-older brother. Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son. I’m no longer the town’s prized princess. At 22, I’m broke, in need of a job. At 32, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge.

I really wanted to like this book. I had heard some wonderful things about it, but I found it profoundly underwhelming. Words are a huge part of this book, the love for them, the usage of them and I truly do appreciate that. But so so so many words were used that it felt like filler. In total this book read like an essay a student had a required word count on. They actually knew 125 words on the subject matter and padded with the remaining 875 needed. I’m genuinely fatigued from the read. Save your credit.

Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

If you take a shot every time the author uses the word queer to reference strange, odd, different, usual etc you might get buzzed enough to enough the book. That must be her favorite word because she abuses it. The premise of the book is excellent, the execution was painful.

Story
I'm not supposed to leave the house. But what my husband doesn't know won't kill him. I break his rules every morning on my runs. It's always been best when I have a routine. So every day I wake up, run, clean the house, wish for a better life, repeat. Every day is exactly the same. Except Thursdays. I live and breathe for Thursdays. It's when he comes. I watch from a distance. I can't help myself. But I was never supposed to talk to him. I know what you're thinking. But you don't know my story. You don't know the kind of monster my husband is. And trust me, you have no idea who I am.

I’ve been a recent fan of Ivy Smoaks work after I read her 8 book Hunted Series (which is a 20 star holy heck yes series). This was a very different book from those but enjoyed in its own right. I really liked the twists and the last 40 mins of the book I basically forgot to breathe! 4 star, would have been 5 if the very very ending didn’t feel somewhat rushed. Still a great listen!!
