OMG is this really a James Patterson novel?
Reviewed: 03-01-20
I can’t believe this was written by James Patterson. The story is ridiculous. Government agents kidnap and hold a 14 year old for no reason, in compound with a bunch of suspected eastern terrorists. A 2 bit neighborhood wannabe investor looks for her with his dope dealer brother .
To add insult to injury, the man reading the book nearly put me to sleep. His voice is so monotone and he speaks so slowly that raising the speed does not help.
I have listened to almost all of Patterson’s books and this is so bad it will be the first Patterson book I will return.. what a disappointment.

Speak the language!
Reviewed: 08-15-19
I usually don't review books, but this one screams for a review. A review of the person telling the story. I am a native Californian & know a lot of our streets are named in Spanish. In this book certain streets are pronounced just terribly. In my mind, if you are going to read this book aloud you should be 100% sure you are saying words correctly .
I am up to the 8th book in the series so I don't remember which street was spoken incorrectly, but it has been bugging me ever since I first heard it.
If anyone ever reads this who has a connection to Mr. Connolley or the reader, please tell them be be sure words are pronounced the way they should be. There is one street, in this book that is mentioned many times & every time it was said wrong, I just cringed & the reading was destroyed for me.
If you do not speak or understand Spanish, you will be saved from this awful insult to Spanish speaking people & those of us who know how to pronounce famous street names.

Aliens again?
Reviewed: 01-23-19
The first 2 books were average murder stories...nothing special about either of them, other than they used up a lot of my time. I didn't read the 3rd book because I am not into stories about aliens & mankind having contact with them. Need I say more? I wouldn't have purchased this book if I had known how blah it is.

The worst narrator that ever existed!
Reviewed: 01-21-19
I can't say much about this book, except I could not get much further than the first few pages. This narrator is the worst. She talks so slowly (yes I sped up her voice) & she just drones on & on! She is so monotonous that I almost fell asleep. So if you can't fall asleep just turn on this book & you won't have to count sheep anymore.
This review goes for "Liar Liar" also.

I am a big fan of James Peterson's books. I am not going to tell you about the characters because almost all the other reviewers do. You can get that info by reading the reviews or the jacket of the book!
This one started out great, - there were not too many characters, scenes were believable & at time a bit twisted, until the end. I won't say what happens but I will say the end was totally stupid & unbelievable. I am so disappointed.
I just bought about a dozen of his books last week & I hope they aren't a bust like this one. I think I will now go read reviews on this book to see if I am off course or what!
I'm back & read a bunch of reviews. There were a lot that said what I am saying and there were a lot more that just raved about the story. I will never understand people. Guess you have to read it yourself & come to your own conclusions. Enjoy.

Everything a superb mystery should have plus more
Reviewed: 10-27-18
I have to say this book had every angle a fantastic mystery should have & more. Yes, it even had romance. Yes, the end was twisted. Yes, I even cried at one point.
It focused on a group of professional women who form a club & solved a series of cruel murders. This premise made me want to pass on reading it. I am so glad I didn't listen to my feelings, as I would have missed a marvelous experience.
Yes, I recommend this book for everything it has including things I forgot to mention.

It has been almost a decade since Duluth said good-bye to its innocence. The city creeps ever closer to the 10th anniversary of the year in which it found itself both gripped by murder and united in terror and during which the pillar of its community, DS Jonathan Stride, had his home and heart torn to ribbons by the claws of cancer. Cat Mateo, an orphan with a knack for landing on her feet, has bid farewell to a life on the streets. This once-stray teenager owes her rescue to Detective Stride, the father figure she holds close to her heart.
