Story
Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. Though she is desperately poor, her life is full of simple pleasures, like playing hopscotch with her best friend from school and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. But when the harsh Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family's crops, Lakshmi's stepfather says she must leave home and take a job to support her family.

Without giving graphic details. The narrator did a great job switching accents which allowed the story to flow smoothly. The crisis of trafficking young girls needs attention like this to educate the public. Bravo to those working so hard to save as many girls as they can!

The narrators voices were great and accents kept my interest and focus. I only heard a few trips in the flow or switching when one narrator did more than one voice, and they were minimally distracting. The storyline and history were very interesting. There were some places it seemed to get lost in the weeds, perhaps for length, and I would drift away. Then the story ended with wanting ‘the rest of the story’ which is touched on as an afterthought, but could have been an important piece of the story and replaced the ‘weeds’. Overall really enjoyed the book, learned some things, and mostly stayed engaged, the narrating adding so much to the experience.

Story
"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

I got a lot of great ideas for quoting the noise in my life. The author presents it thoughtfully, speaking to humans, and fills it with grace for accepting the challenges and personalizing which practices you want to incorporate. They are just good ideas to adopt or not, they are not “in order to be a good Christian you must…..”

I am recommending it to all my friends. It is an incredible introduction of Spiritual Formation intertwined with a story of four women’s lives that really holds your interest. How creative to take a potentially boring textbook and turn it into a relatable journey of real world stories that bring to life the lessons of such things as Lecto Divina, the Examen, and walking a labyrinth!

This book hits the heart of painful stories, not mincing words or apologizing. Just hard core emotions that paint beauty among ashes, words that show from the ugliest this world has to offer, healing and hope can bring inspiration and change. Thank you for this book Richard Paul Evans, as a child advocate this is one of my favorites of yours.

I love so many Debbie Macomber books, but to my disappointment, this one was predictable from almost the beginning. It provided a level of entertainment, but it isn’t as fun or capturing when it is SO predictable.

I really enjoy this story which was had more depth being narrated by two different people. I liked that the two character stories paralleled despite the decades of time between their existence, and that the parallels had to be thought about they weren't so similar as to be sappy. There were many good lessons in this book as well.
