Atlee and her assistant head back to Atlee's rural hometown to see what they can uncover about the traumatic night Mercy was taken and Pine was almost killed. But soon after Atlee begins her investigation, a local woman is found ritualistically murdered.

Story
In 1909, Clementine steps off a train with her new husband, Winston. An angry woman emerges from the crowd to attack, shoving him in the direction of an oncoming train. Just before he stumbles, Clementine grabs him by his suit jacket. This will not be the last time Clementine Churchill will save her husband. Lady Clementine is the ferocious story of the ambitious woman beside Winston Churchill, the story of a partner who did not flinch through the sweeping darkness of war, and who would not surrender either to expectations or to enemies.

I am now 90+ years old and vividly recall so much of the history in this excellent book! The few times I saw Lady Churchill in newspapers or newsreels I sensed that she was a most remarkable woman and have no hesitation in believing that this is an accurate portrayal of an amazing woman! Truly a must read novel! 🙂

Story
Each morning Livia Moretti makes her way from an apartment overlooking Florence’s famous Duomo to a nearby café, where she drinks espresso and reads the newspaper. To the crowds of tourists who pass by, nothing about Livia will be memorable. She is simply an old lady. They walk on without knowing the part she played in ensuring the future of this beautiful city. And to Livia now, those dark days feel very far away. But today, when she opens the paper, she sees a name she has not heard for a long time. A name that will bring memories flooding back.

I lived through those years as an American, and now see how little I knew of the tribulations of the Italian victims of Naziism! As those evils are again raising their heads, I applaud all efforts to focus light on the evil "isms" of that time for new generations so they will think, really think before allowing them to once again terrorize the world.
