I have to worst luck find books written by men, who actually know how to write female characters. No luck with this one either.

And the guy who read the book made all the characters sound like frail senior citizens.

I don’t think this was meant as a YA selection, but maybe it was. The narration made the main character sound quite young.
The story was pretty intriguing for just over half of the book. Then it either got boring, or went in a weird direction. I just lost interest in the characters.

It’s hard to go wrong with any book written by Sarah Lyons Fleming. And this was also a fantastic read/listen.

World Departed is set in the same zombie apocalypse as her previous series. Completely different character and scenario settings (which is great - it’s so disappointing when a writer has a hit series and everything they write after is just a slightly tweaked version of the original)

I loved some characters, I hated some characters. And that’s because they were so well written - I had genuine gut emotions and feelings towards them!

Not only are there gross (in an awesome way) death by zombie scenes, there’s survival, family betrayal, love interests (love seeing lgbtq+ represented in her books!!) and more.

The only problem (not really a “problem”) was the voice the narrator gave Craig. I know the character is supposed to be a great guy, but his (the narrator) voice intonation was kind of annoying (sorry! Nothing to do with the writing of the story)

Can’t wait for the rest of the series!

Interesting take on a version on a post apocalyptic world. I like the relationship between the MC and his fiancée. The twist threw me for a loop, and I loved it!

The narrator was great, and I didn’t find his reading too fast as some have mentioned.

I’ve enjoyed this series. My only wish would be for the narrator to not voice Lev as robotic. I think it might have been to show that he still had a hint of his original accent, but I only heard robot. Everyone else had great voices, and the story was well written.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable listen! A time travel/time jump style story that doesn’t make you think too much about it (no butterfly effect conundrums to worry or think too much about).
Our main heroine becomes a bit of a minor hero due to some unknown ability from a house she purchases (or so we are made to think ..... I’m wondering if that might change in a book 2? Just a personal theory)

Small nitpick about the narrator. I liked listening to her voice, but I think that her lack of inflection in all of her male voices may have changed the way I understood the story. Whether the characters were “good guys” or “bad guys” they all sounded EXACTLY monotonously the same.
Stephanie’s (our heroine) love interest had me suspicious that he may have been one of the “bad guys” she was trying to catch- right up until they declared their “feelings”...... so confusing lol

If a book 2 comes out, I’ll get it! :)

I actually really enjoyed the way the story was written, and the humour. But the actual story was not for me. So I’m going to keep an eye out for other Wyatt Kane books.
Narration by Chris Graves was spot on! Really enjoyed listening to his voices an interpretation of the characters.
The time travel powers the mc were really interesting, and that twist near the end with the “old man” very cool!
What I wasn’t able to get past was the mc and his hot (surprise! they’re strippers with amazing bodies!) female twin companions.... all instantly hot for each other, orgasms for all! And guess what!? The more sex they have, the more powerful he becomes! Golly! Talk about a hardship for all involved lol
Not necessarily a bad storyline, just not for me.

I will definitely be on the look out for other books by this author though :) (a little less hot stripper threesomes hopefully;-)

I enjoyed the story and the characters. The “twists” were dropped in at good spots to keep me interested. They weren’t really surprising reveals, but still good. Odd unnecessary side story with the police pair involved.

I have been so bored of the ‘same old same old’ from the recent authors of fantasy & litrpg genres.
And I am so happy to review this honestly as a ‘breath of fresh air’ in this style of writing. It’s probably not for everyone, but A LOT of readers of this genre will enjoy its fresh approach. Scrawny female lead (what? No gigantic tata’s lol thank goodness) although she isn’t scrawny for long. The men all seem to be buff, but she isn’t a drooling fool over them - in fact, everyone is fairly friendly without needing to couple off or jump into bed ..... like I said, a refreshing take on this type of story. Looking forward to a next book, as I did find this was mostly just getting to know Jade and her reaction to this new world - but I loved what I read, and definitely want to know more :)
(sorry so vague with the review, but .... spoilers y’know!)
