About this listen

Who will believe your story if the only witness is dead?

"What a storyteller Rachel Abbott is...I was hooked from the start." (Cara Hunter)

"A truly compelling, twisty, enthralling and satisfying read.... Absolutely amazing!" (Angela Marsons)

Cleo knows she should be happy for her brother Mark. He's managed to find someone new after the sudden death of his first wife - but something about Evie just doesn't feel right....

When Evie starts having accidents at home, her friends grow concerned. Could Mark be causing her injuries? Called out to their cliff-top house one night, Sergeant Stephanie King finds two bodies entangled on blood-drenched sheets.

Where does murder begin? When the knife is raised to strike, or before, at the first thought of violence? As the accused stands trial, the jury is forced to consider - is there ever a proper defense for murder?

"I raced through this compelling, twisty novel. Loved it." (Laura Marshall)

"Brilliant.... The twists came so quickly I almost got whiplash." (Jenny Blackhurst)

"An unnerving, twisting tale that you won't be able to put down." (Caroline Mitchell)

The beginning was kind of redundant and a little boring, but it started to pick up and get very, very good very quickly. And wow that ending wow!!! NEVER EXPECTED THAT !!!!!!

slow beginning, CRAZY ENDING!!!!!!

I actually read the second book first which really blew me away but this book introduces and explains the complexity of Stephanie & Gus’s relationship. The detective work was so good! Evie is a brilliant character as you just don’t know up to the bitter end is she the victim or a cunning meticulous murderer. Just enough was given to drive me crazy mad in the best way in trying to figure it out and loved that I couldn’t!!! Narration was excellent.

Love This Duet

Possible spoilers: Loved the story except the sleepy narrator who I get was trying to capture Evie.. but it was sleepy sounding for near all the characters and I wish she had either made the characters much different or used a different person entirely for some of the voices. I also find it hard to believe that someone would clutch so hard to the death of their brother as children and make that still the most important thing above loving her own child -which she did but put revenge above her.

Loved all but sleepy narrator

Really captivating right up til the very end. I figured out what the ending was halfway through but there is a big twist at the end. Lot of back and forth guessing who will live and who died. Excellent book!

Lots of twists
