Story
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

This is one of the most engaging romance stories I’ve ever come across! The storyline is very unique. And the narrators bought this book to LIFE. (I could listen to “Rowan’s” voice ALL day…)
The main characters have amazing chemistry, both sexually and in their overall personalities. I really enjoyed the sinister bits humor and oh-so-sexy encounters throughout. I also liked the unexpected twist towards the end. Overall, I recommend this book — it doesn’t disappoint.

I agree with the other reviewers who mentioned the story didn’t have much of a plot. But the narration was flawless. Just wish there was more of a story line.

Story
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Story
It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

I’m a big fan of Bastone and her short stories. They have made my long driving commutes so much better! This plot draws you in as a listener and the narrators really brought this story to life. And oh my, Elliot’s voice, slight drawl, and character swept me off my feet. I could listen to him talk all day! Give this short story a listen — you won’t be disappointed.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

I struggle with severe anxiety, PTSD and reviving from an abusive relationship with my own mother. I found Jennette’s book to be so relatable. It tugged my heart in all directions. Crazy how in a world filled with so many people we can all feel so alone, but her story confirmed that we never are alone in our suffering and that there is hope. This book has changed my life.❤️

This page-turner was filled with a mix of witty humor, complex family dynamics, emotional baggage, and sexy, toe-curling encounters. And I can’t forget to mention the healthy dose of love and support from the main character’s best friends and family. The narrators of this book really bought the story to life. I could not stop listening. Highly recommend!

Great author but this book was not for me
Reviewed: 10-21-22
It started off well with an attention-grabbing beginning, but as I listened on, things went in a different direction and I just couldn’t finish it. One of the Audible narrators was great, with a voice that had character and emotion, but the other narrator sounded like a robot with an artificial intelligence-like intonation. That voice reading overly descriptive, raunchy sex scenes mixed in with stories about child abuse told from a mentally disturbed character made me delete the book from my library. It was too much for me to take in.

This was my first McFadden book and let me tell you, it will not be my last. This was the best psychological thriller I’ve ever listened to. Filled with twists and turns, you truly never know what’s going to happen next. Each new chapter will have you questioning every character’s mindsets, motives, and moves. Whether you choose to listen to or read this book, you will not be disappointed.
