Story
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye have just one thing in common. They were all murdered by the same man. He hunted them online, masquerading as an eligible bachelor. Then he played the perfect gentleman, a thick layer of charm and a thousand-watt smile hiding the fact that his first dates end in shallow graves. He’s gotten away with murder three times now. The only thing that might keep him from killing again? The women he murdered. Meghan, Brecia, and Skye might be dead, but they’re not gone. They’ve found each other. And they won’t rest until they find a way to stop him.

I really enjoyed both the book and the narration. It is heartfelt and more about the people than the details.of their murders. Loved it!

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

The best thing about this book
Reviewed: 11-21-23
is the narrator, fantastic! I would listen to you read a grocery list.
The book, meh. The world is sloppy and 1 dimensional. You kill off 100s of students each year for no great reason and wonder at the same time why enrollment dwindles? Maybe because you're needlessly allowing strong people to die? I get it the dragons could take out a few during bonding, but why not disqualify them to move on and maybe produce more volunteers.
All of the pining and heavy breathing? Not fun, I skipped several portions of the book be ause it just went on and on. Tell me you wrote lots of B class romance and then went let's sprinkle dragons in cause $$$$
The best shining moments of the book involved interactions between Violet and the dragons...these were the deepest relationships in the book.
No character growth, no real arc to the story, no side characters shining and being explored.
My first and last book by this author.

Should come with a warning

Overall, it's well written, but even as a fan of horror and true crime, this was overly graphic. At times, it was like it was written for the sado masochist pleasure. It is distracting from the deeper development of the sisters' relationship, and Claires struggle to reconcile her inner turmoil.

Fairly Predictable but Good Story
Reviewed: 03-20-19
I enjoy the concept of this world and characters the author built. The narrator also does a splendid job of reading this. The only slight downside is that most of the is books plot was predictable, even to me from fairly early on in the book. Which is kinda disappointing.
Overall I'd recommend this if this book is your thing, like it is mine, but I wouldn't recommend it to people highly bothered by a predictable plot.

Story
In the medieval kingdom of Goredd, women are expected to be ladies, men are their protectors, and dragons can be whomever they choose. Tess is none of these things. Tess is...different. She speaks out of turn, has wild ideas, and can't seem to keep out of trouble. Then Tess goes too far. Tess's family decide the only path for her is a nunnery. But on the day she is to join the nuns, Tess chooses a different path for herself. She cuts her hair, pulls on her boots, and sets out on a journey. She's not running away, she's running towards something.

Beautiful Fantasy Book
Reviewed: 12-27-18
It's not often I find myself moved by a book. It's so well written... To put it simply, this is a story of a woman who, in this book, slowly finds herself and her self worth. Who heals herself of her pains slowly and it's just so beautiful. It's hard to put into words how much I appreciate Rachel Hartman for writing a character like Tess. I can wait to read more of Tess in the future. In the meantime, I'm going to read the books about Seraphina.
100% recommend this book to anyone looking for a strong female main character in a (more realistic) fantasy setting.

This story is like an emotional roller coaster. You think one thing will happen, but then something happens that changes it. Maybe it’d be more accurate to say emotional whiplash. Haha Overall, this book reminds me a lot like other books like The Bone Season, Game of Thrones, and The Hunger Games. If you like those, you’ll certainly like this.
