Escape from reality

I love this series and the narrator is amazing! The world is close enough to reality to believe in and intriguing enough to pull you in and keep you engaged as the lead characters continue to save the souls of the world.

Story
Two sisters, haunted by more than their past... Just weeks after discovering each other’s existence, Jess and Hannah Ballard arrive at Fairhaven Hall, where they will learn the clandestine ways of the Durupinen, an ancient sect of women who control the Gateways between the worlds of the living and the dead. Though they are considered outcasts by most of their classmates, Jess and Hannah are determined to learn what they can to fulfill their responsibility to the many ghosts that haunt them. But danger, it seems, has followed them as closely as a shadow to their new home.

volume was all over the place

Great story. It ties everything together well, but the volume of the narrator kept getting really quiet. Even at full volume it was sometimes hard to hear. I get whispering when the narration calls for it, but regulating the volume would have been much appreciated.

Great Book!

So far I've found this trilogy to be a well crafted intriguing read. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because the narrator pronounces a female characters name as (Gay-bri-el). I believe the author was using the name pronunciation (Ga-bri-el). I have no proof without a physical copy of the book, but it was annoying to hear a male name for a female character. (This society has straight forward gender norms as far as I can tell, so the character names have traditional male or female connotations)

Story
There’s nothing Jilly Truitt likes more than winning a case, especially against her former mentor, prosecutor Cy Kenge. Jilly has baggage, the residue of a dark time in a series of foster homes, but that’s in the past. Now she’s building her own criminal defense firm and making a name for herself as a tough-as-nails lawyer willing to take risks in the courtroom. When the affluent and enigmatic Vincent Trussardi is accused of his wife Laura’s murder, Jilly agrees to defend him, despite predictions that the case is a sure loser and warnings from those close to her to stay away from the Trussardi family.

Predictable
Reviewed: 07-31-19
The story was very predictable. The narration was odd. Sometimes we were given a british accent, but the story takes place in Canada. If the narrator was going for a french accent she failed. There was an angsty immaturity about the story.
