WARNING — minor spoilers ahead!! You have been warned.
If I hadn’t wanted to know which one she’d kill, I would’ve stopped reading halfway through. Isla gets very annoying at times with her I love him, I hate him game. I get that she’s dealing with her trauma the best she knows how, but it felt like the author had a word quota to fill and was just using filler to met that quota.
The ending really saved the book for me. The cliffhanger (which I will NOT give away!) makes me believe that this isn’t just a trilogy and that there must be more books. Will I read them? Yes. Will Isla still drive me nuts? Also yes. lol

I’d heard several people say this was a good book and that was an understatement! It’s an amazing book! Well written and thoroughly researched, the reader feels like they are there with the characters. I’ve only learned bits and pieces about the Vietnam war in school (I was born in 1977) so this book was very eye opening. If you enjoy historical books, you will love this one!

Great love story with a great plot twist
Reviewed: 10-06-24
Honestly, I only decided to read this book because it was written by Rebecca Yarros and I love Fourth Wing/Iron Flame. But I’m so glad I did!! It’s not fantasy, but rather a World War II/Modern Romance mashup.
The story hooked me from the very beginning and I grew to love the MCs. And to hate her mother and ex-husband. The storyline moves along at a very good pace.
And the twist she put in there I NEVER saw coming!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The narrators are very good too.

Story
Isla Crown has secured the love of two powerful rulers and broken the curses that plagued the six realms for centuries, but few know the true origins of her powers. Now, in the wake of a crushing betrayal, Isla finds herself hungry for distraction, preferring to frequent Lightlark’s seductive haunts instead of embracing her duties as the newly crowned leader of two separate realms. Worse, her fellow rulers haven’t ceded victory quietly, and there are others in Isla’s midst who don’t believe her ascent to power was earned.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and it surprised me at every turn. Made me question things — some I already had, some were new to me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who questions whether or not they’re doing the right thing or even what the meaning of life is. Just be prepared to question everything.

It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Interesting but horrible recording
Reviewed: 07-05-22
I enjoyed the content of the book and it definitely made me think about the things that happen in my life and how I’m responsible for them.
With that being said, I need to address the numerous technical issues with this audio book. While listening on my wireless ear pods, I could hear an echo. When I listened in my car, it sounded like the narrator was in an echo chamber. Lastly, there are long pauses at the end of each chapter to where you think Audible has paused your book for no reason.
I hope Audible will fix these and re-release the audiobook, as I’d like to listen to it again but I’m not sure I can stomach it the way it currently is.
