Story
In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

At what cost will a country or countries go to learn the knowledge that some brilliant men have obtained, even if the knowledge was gained doing terrible things to their fellow man. That is what this book seeks to answer.

President Truman is truly an underrated president, he spoke the truth even when it was not popular to do so. A man who came from the people and represented almost all the best qualities of what America should be. We could use another president Truman at this time in our country.

Born a tanner’s son in rugged Ohio in 1822 and battle-tested by the Mexican-American War, Grant met his destiny on the bloody fields of the Civil War. His daring and resolve as a general gained the attention of President Lincoln, then desperate for bold leadership. Lincoln appointed Grant as Lieutenant General of the Union Army in March 1864. Within a year, Grant’s forces had seized Richmond and forced Robert E. Lee to surrender.

Underrated President and underrated figure in US History
Reviewed: 01-12-22
Bret Bairer has done it again with this great book on a President that often gets under valued and often under appreciated as well. This book shows who grant really was, not just the commanding general of the union army but also that off the President, Devoted husband and loving father. One of my favorite books I’ve read in awhile and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in it.

A man who changed America
Reviewed: 06-04-21
Seventy six years ago one of America’s most important presidents died, but in his wake you see how he truly changed this country for the better. Programs that we take for granted today such as social security and the GI Bill were radical for the time. This man changed how America is today and this book explores his life and everything that made him the man he was.

Underrated president and overrated general
Reviewed: 02-19-21
Growing up I knew who both these men where, one a president who I honestly didn’t know much about. The other a celebrated war hero who seemed to never do anything wrong. However I believe that Truman is one of our most underrated presidents who actually did a lot for this country, while MacArthur in contrast seems to be a general who became out of touch with his time. He was a great commander but he also thought he could do no wrong and their lies his biggest problem. And overall excellent book and great narration as well.

Story
Up until now, the Korean War has been the black hole of modern American history. The Coldest Winter changes that. Halberstam gives us a masterful narrative of the political decisions and miscalculations on both sides. He charts the disastrous path that led to the massive entry of Chinese forces near the Yalu, and that caught Douglas MacArthur and his soldiers by surprise. He provides astonishingly vivid and nuanced portraits of all the major figures.

As the grandson of a Korean War veteran this book helped me understand what my grandpa did during the early 1950’s. A heart felt thank you to all of those brave men and what they went through.

This Clancy novel has to be my favorite I’ve read in awhile. Not only is the story extremely interesting it’s based in an area of the world that sadly doesn’t get the help and stability that it most certainly needs and deserves. Also what’s nice is that when you think you’ve figured something out it is completely changed on you. Aida has to be my favorite character is this story because just when you think you understand her you find out that what you thought you knew was completely wrong. As they say in the story their is always three truths in the Balkan’s. A Serbian truth, a Croatian truth and a bosnaik truth. The only question is which one will you believe...

This book was an amazing insist into the life of a man who for thirty seven years served his country and then step away. Admiral McRaven truly is an American hero, I simply could not put this book down and found him reading it even better than the story already was. Hopefully someday maybe he’ll run for some form of office in this country. We could use a man like him in charge and leading this country. Overall the book is very interesting and very well written.

Two generations have produced three NFL superstars: Archie Manning, the Ole Miss hero-turned-New Orleans Saint; his son Peyton, widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game; and Peyton's younger brother, Eli, who won two Super Bowl rings of his own.
