This was such a pleasure to listen to. Super short. It’s a lovely story about anthropomorphized galaxies. I’m not even sure how to describe it, but I suppose it evokes feelings of peace, beauty, softness or gentleness, yearning. It would be great to listen to while at a planetarium or under the stars on a warm night. Even the virtual voice was perfect for this. I’m not sure how it came up given my search terms, but I thought I’d give it a shot and I’m glad I did.

The narrative reads and is read like a diary entry or a girl at a slumber party telling her friends what happened. Not my thing. Interesting concept and plot. I just think it would be better with a more immersive way of telling the story. The narrater was good for this approach. I’d be interested in seeing how she does with a typical narrative.

The story was well written as usual, and narration was excellent as I’ve come to expect from this duo. But I had a really hard time rating it because it’s one long heartache which is a story trope that I can only handle for a few chapters. This one lasts for about 3/4ths of the book. If you’re a lover of strong, sad emotions with a happy ending, this book is for you.

This is the second book in the series, and while I didn’t like it quite as much as the first, it was spectacular! My one and only critique is that it dragged a bit in the first half. The writing and the female narrater are highly nuanced, making for a better-than-face-value listen. So good. The male narrater, although more straightforward, was still perfection. I definitely have a new favorite author for the genre!

Even with the virtual voice, this was an intriguing listen with a satisfying ending. The story is based on an…almost believable concept, but the way it plays out had me laughing, despite the relatively serious narrative. I fully enjoyed this!

This is my favorite of the Risdaverse series. Naomi is adorable and pragmatic and Ainar is adorable and hot! It’s a low angst, steamy, alien romance of the best kind.

Michelle Mills’ Curvy Girls series is super fun and cute. I’ve read almost the entire series. I was really excited about this one because the premise is intriguing, but it totally fell flat. The story starts midway through, after the heroine is just about done stalking (investigating) the hero. There’s a long exposition at the beginning giving background that would have actually made for some interesting content and build up. Instead, there’s a long, painfully boring section in the middle where the two are biding time during the rainy season. The heroine has a ridiculous cover story that is immediately revealed to be false. A wildlife photographer would have made so much more sense! She even has the camera with a telephoto lens to fully back it up. There is no sexual tension. Can’t have sex because she hurt her ankle? And it was hard to view the hero as attractive with the female narrator’s version of the male’s voice making him sound like an old, old man. And the reason she was hired to investigate him in the first place made absolutely no sense. Suspension of disbelief is an absolute must to enjoy the books in this series, and they are usually a fun, light, low-angst read. I recommend focusing on the other books and skipping this one. If you do decide to read, skip forward a few chapters when they start talking about Star Trek Next Gen.

This was a very interesting and complex story. I really love the world building and unfolding of the plot. The concept is intriguing. It seems to be set in the past, or in an alternate universe, but it’s more likely the future. I felt like there wasn’t much character growth, but I actually liked the consistency in the characters for this story line. The male narrator was spectacular. At NO point did I get distracted from the story due to flaws in his narration. It was perfect. And panty melting voice, TBH. The female narrator had a few moments every now and then that pulled me from the story because it was obvious that she was reading. But her performance was still very good. I love this type of narration where you get the correct voices for each character throughout. If you’re squeamish, beware. There are some really gross bits (in both senses of the word). Overall, I loved it. I thought it was very well done. I can’t wait to see what else the author has to offer!

Alice Crowley’s books are comical, to say the least. Be careful not to drink anything while you’re listening or you might end up cleaning a bunch of spray. Sexually explicit and relatively shallow (short story and all), she does a nice job of giving you just enough of the flavor of the characters to make them enjoyable. The AI reader is perfect too, because it narrates sex scenes like a coffee shop conversation. I love how she gradually reveals the fantastical world she’s created throughout the story instead of just dumping all the info at the outset. This is my favorite of her farcical stories so far. Fun, fun!

So, I’m sure the author had a great time writing this. It’s sooo laughably bad. It’s like a porn version of a Grimms’ fairy tale. It reads like a lot of the Grimms’ stories too, but the author has infused crude alliteration throughout. The AI reader adds to the ridiculousness because of its matter-of-fact narration of the sex scenes. I was practically crying from laughter. If you’re in the mood for a raunchy laugh, it’s definitely worth a listen.
