Story
I live hard and love harder, and it's love that usually gets me in the most trouble. According to the greater population, I'm the ultimate jerk. My affection tends to be short-lived - a quality I've been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn't becoming - and the leaving part of loving and leaving has always come natural. At least, it used to. Until her. Luciana Wright. She's an American bombshell and my sister's best friend - a woman so wrong for me, it's written in the waves. And she's the reason we're all here. The reason I have to go back to explain how it all went wrong.

Annoying narrator
Reviewed: 07-12-24
I found the narrator of book 2 incredibly annoying. Didn’t sound Australian and the constant laughing and sighing were distracting. I’m only 1/3 of the way in and I may not make it.

Story
Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Story
My rule is to never fall in love with a client. His rule? To never fall in love at all. I work at an elite matchmaking company. A failing one, to be honest. We’re near bankruptcy when billionaire Anthony Winter invests. It’s only business for him - he doesn’t believe in the company’s mission. No, Anthony tells me true love is a lie and our clients are delusional. He’s a cynic in a thousand-dollar suit. He’s also a challenge I can't resist. We make a bet. I have three dates to prove our service works. Three dates to set him up with the woman he never knew he needed.

I thought Sarah O’Banyon had been The One. I’d been f-ing wrong. I moved on, made something of myself. Became police chief. Even had a beautiful daughter. When Sarah buys me at the bachelor auction, I’m stunned. It’s been six years. She wants me for something now. When we end up in my bedroom, I know exactly what. Except I get cuffed to my headboard by the sexy mechanic - and left.

There was little substance to this story. I found the narration annoying- an accent given to the wrong word especially prepositions. Just do so over all

I loved everything about this book. It’s too hard to break down the elements that appealed the most- but an insight into Barbra’s personality and the lifelong challenges she faced was riveting. I’m the end, I think she is the most talented woman ever to grace the world and I doubt there will ever be another like her.

I was initially a bit turned off by the main character. But having been in a potentially life compromising accident and having been in ICU for a week, I was able to relate to how Mary Beth felt- always having looked after everyone and in her time of vulnerability and need, feeling as if nobody was there for her. The story unfolded with more and more detail, filling in holes in our understanding. I felt that though there were some difficult to believe aspects of the story, by and large it was well written.

This worked since he'd become a member of the family anyway. Even with a genie, Lily's young life wasn't perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes.
