I found this book OK. I got really annoyed with the characters because a lot of the issue was just a misunderstanding! If they had communicated properly t etc etc. I just get frustrated when this happens in stories.
Overall it did keep my interest and I did want to find out what happened.

Story
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Story
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

What is with all the hype regarding this book! So many people have suggested this story to me saying "It is my all time favorite book". I found it miserable and soooooo boring! I couldn't finish it! I got well over half way through and I just had to give up.

I have never read Jennifer Donnelly before. This was picked for a book club I belong to and I was sure glad it was. This is a fantastic story and kept me hooked right up to the end. I dont usually go for books set in the late 1800s - I tend to like more modern books, so this was a nice surprise for me.
