Unexpected gem

This is a perfect example of what a 40k novel should be. At times funny (really!), at times grimdark, great and likable charcters. Interesting story, that flows nicely. Really cool moments of pure assassin awesome. Lore deep dives.
Only thing lacking would be a deeper message and theme exploration, but as light reading it's top class.

Story
For Thelana Evenfall, Lumineth loreseeker and tutor at the Lyceum Fundamental in the city of Settler's Gain, the weapon is a footnote—the shadow of a rumour buried under mountains of long-forgotten lore. But when whispers of its whereabouts resurface, the vying factions within Hysh emerge to claim its power. From trusted allies to insidious cults, Thelana must navigate a treacherous landscape of clashing armies, political machinations and betrayals within betrayals, all in a desperate effort to defend the powerless from the all-powerful and to ask the unanswerable question:

The book starts very strong. I loved the first half. Then the author seemed to have lost all inspiration and it went down hill from there. Name calling units from the game in battles that seemed more than forced, complete lack of suspens and 100% predictable.

Story
Legends abound of the glorious - or infamous - deeds of the emperor's sons. Yet almost nothing is known of Alpharius, the most mysterious of them all, for the lord of the Alpha Legion is unparalleled in the art of obfuscation. Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma - until now. But when the tale comes from the serpent’s mouth, where do the lies end and the truth begin?

Story
In the rain-soaked shanty towns of Excelsis, sellsword Niksar Astaboras drunkenly barters his way to a meaningless existence. Little does he care for the war that rages between men and monsters beyond the city walls, despite portents of its encroaching threat. Mortal life in the Realm of Beasts is short enough, and to leave the shelter of civilisation is to surrender to certain death. But death is coming to Excelsis. The forces of Destruction are on the move, and the realm quakes with each thunderous step.

Pointless and shallow

I struggled to finish this. There were a few moments where it seemed the story could get interesting, but they were not expanded on and instead the focus was on the usual hammer, chop, chop, good vs. evil, good guys win. Characters were 1 dimensional, nothing added to the lore, happy-go-lucky atmosphere, the oruks were cliche.

Fantastically gothic and atmospheric. Most Warhammery of all AoS books so far. Great use of the setting. I want more!
Downsides:
1. it starts a bit slow
2. the narrator does not greatly differentiate between character voices.

It is said that all who live belong ultimately to the Undying King. In the shadowy lands of Shyish, Nagash, God of Death, calls forth his soulless legions to reassert his dominion. His dread advance begins with the free city of Glymmsforge, bastion of Azyr in the Realm of Death. Standing between Nagash and his prize are the brooding Anvils of the Heldenhammer, an ancient host of Stormcast Eternals, and Lord-Castellant Pharus Thaum, guardian of the Ten Thousand Tombs. great voice acting. some cool dialogue between Nagash and Akhan. failed to explore some of the more interesting relationships in favor of too many characters. sigmar is such a boring device I hope he gets his head caved in at some point in the future of the mortal realms. Maybe there is a golden throne laying about somewhere....
