About this listen

A Warhammer Age of Sigmar novel.

In Shyish, twin towns face horror - the spectral hordes of Lady Olynder will soon rise and devour their souls. One hero must stand against them - but can he face the Lady of Sorrows?

Listen to It Because

Get an insight into life in the Realm of Death, and discover how its inhabitants deal with the constant threat of spectral horror.

The Story

In the deathly realm of Shyish, the Twinned Towns of Westreach and Eastdale exist on the edge of annihilation. Once in each generation, the hosts of Lady Olynder rise from their tombs to slaughter the towns’ inhabitants, and for centuries the nighthaunts have been turned back, but only after the fiercest of battles. Now, the wizards in the ancient Belvegrod lighthouse have deciphered a prophetic vision that offers a chance to break the curse placed upon the city. The hero Jahangir is fated to lead a desperate mission against the Mortarch of Grief and free his people from this menace once and for all. But is Jahangir equal to the ordeal before him? Can the courage of mortals stand against the undying malice of the Lady of Sorrows?

the twust in the final chapter

I liked getting attached to people in the story to then have something befall them.

Better than expected.

I very much enjoyed the book. Yes it’s not from the perspective of the night haunts but it has an exciting adventure with many twists and turns. And also paints a picture of the realm of death.

It gets better

For me, this story started a little slow, but from a little before half way to the end, it becomes something pretty amazing. Some great twists in the plot, and I found myself invested in most of the characters. I just think the beginning was a little bogged down by action sequences that were a bit overlong. Definitely worth it though. But be warned, it is a tragedy.

Amazing

Wow what an awesome book! I’ve read probably fifty plus black library stories (all exceeding 8 hours minimum) and I can say this is my one on my favorites. It leaves you not wanting more but very satisfied with the outcome. Much like a good meal that you don’t over eat, you’re left with a smile and the thought “Damn that was good.” Highly recommend 10/10, going to read it to my nephew for some bedtime stories

A tale fit for Shyish

This story really captures the cold, gloomy atmosphere of Shyish and the few, desperate mortals who eke out an existence there.

It also showcases the power and cunning of Lady Olynder in a satisfying arc of depressing events. She’s only in a few scenes but they are set up well and they pay out well.

Only thing I wish there was more of was more “scene time” featuring a wider variety of night-haunts, or even just passing mentions of major nighthaunt characters would have been cool.

Overall a must-read for nighthaunt fans!

A deadly quest to lift a curse

I was not prepared for the quality of this book. It is fantastic from start to finish with so many twists to change up the flow. Not a single moment felt lacking. This was not marketed to me as a horror novel but this is the first book to inspire dread and disgust within me. I can not recommend this book enough!

A tragic journey.

Tragic story set in Shyish lands.
If you've ever read any C L Werner books, you may feel at home here.
It's difficult to say much about this title, without spoilering it, but if you have any interest in Shyish and particularly in Lady Olynder you might find this book very attractive. It's also for those, who enjoy adventure stories.

One of my favorites

A really enjoyable and grim story. Shows the mortarch of grief and her power very well.
