A Deep Dive Into Source To Plate History And Practise Of The Food We Eat
Reviewed: 03-23-24
I appreciate the heavily researched and clearly delineated history of food in its natural and processed state, and, the impact of these foods on the human body, society, and, the ecosystem. Though there is some technical jargon, the vast majority of the information is laid out in plain English nearly everyone can understand.
I have spent a lifetime experimenting with different diets and am deeply interested in human nutrition. I am a mostly Whole Foods vegan and use minor supplementation. I appreciate that the author has offered all sides of the conversation and discussed in clear terms the outcomes of the various dietary systems.
I would recommend this book to anyone, whatever their dietary choices, interested in understanding, step by step, the sources of the food we eat and its outcome on human and societal health.

Have you ever thought about the creative process that boiled inside geniuses like Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorák, Strauss, Brahms, Mendelssohn, or Liszt-or any composer, for that matter? What goes through a composer's mind when a musical composition is being set to paper? Are those magical weeks or months spent in an agonizing creative blur of ideas first tried and then discarded, or it a matter of pure inspiration?

As the cofounder of Creative Artists Agency, Michael Ovitz earned a reputation for ruthless negotiation, brilliant strategy, and fierce loyalty to his clients. He reinvented the role of the agent and helped shape the careers of hundreds of A-list entertainers, directors, and writers. But this personal history is much more than a fascinating account of celebrity friendships and bare-knuckled deal making. It's also an underdog's story: How did a middle-class kid from Encino work his way into the William Morris mailroom and eventually become the most powerful person in Hollywood?

A charismatic Glaswegian, who partied just as hard as any of the acts on his notoriously hedonistic label, he became an infamous character in the world of music.

If you love indie Brit-Rock this is the book for you! Though born in America, I have had an enduring love affair with all things British!especially the music. Beatles, Bowie, Smiths Oasis, and the notorious Libertines have been staples of my life since I was a young girl in the Mid-west of America and remains today overlooking Los Angeles. Alan McGee is a dream-weaver!a hit-maker, and one hell of a story-teller. His brother does a great job with the reading and I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Brit-rock. Highly recommended!

Story
David Mitchell’s 2014 best seller Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse must really have made people think - because everything’s got worse. We’ve gone from UKIP surge to Brexit shambles, from horsemeat in lasagne to Donald Trump in the White House, from Woolworths going under to all the other shops going under. It’s probably socially irresponsible even to try to cheer up.

I grew up on Woody Allen films and have seen every film, many several times. So this book was an absolute pleasure to listen to!especially since Woody himself did the narration. In addition to discussing his past, his passions, and his films, he also talks at length about the long debunked accusations against him orchestrated by Mia Farrow, he also shares details of his life with his wife and children. Woody Allen fans will definitely enjoy this audio book.

I sampled several offerings in this genre before settling on Hit Makers to purchase and consume and boy am I glad I did! This is a true gem; erudite, fast-paced, filled with brilliant insights including plenty of examples of what works, what does not, and, most importantly, why and why not! The text is delivered in a crisp, engaging manner. There are fact-based and profound revelations sprinkled liberally throughout the book. It is not often one hears the term “page-turner” attached to a non-fiction work but this is the audio version of that for me. I am a Talent Manager/Producer/Screenwriter in Hollywood (formerly a musician and painter) and can say that this audio book has provided me with valuable information I can directly apply to my profession. Hit Makers is definitely a Hit with me! Very Highly Recommended!
