Good story but the narration...
Reviewed: 11-08-21
I'm not finished yet with the book, but I can say that I like the story and the 3 perspectives. The narration, though, is almost intolerable. I'm going to stick it out because I want to know how it ends, but wow... The narrator for Meredith is ridiculous. Every line she reads is wrought with angst and drama and 100% unrealistic. I'm certain that I could read this book aloud and do better than this person who was paid to do so. Kate's narrator is better but not much. The voices of Leo and Delilah are both good, but unfortunately we don't hear them much. If you're still deciding, I recommend reading this one, and not listening to it.

Story
Harvard Business School professor Mihir Desai, in his last lecture to the graduating Harvard MBA class of 2015, took up the cause of restoring humanity to finance. With incisive wit and irony, his lecture drew upon a rich knowledge of literature, film, history, and philosophy to explain the inner workings of finance in a manner that has never been seen before. This book captures Desai's lucid exploration of the ideas of finance as seen through the unusual prism of the humanities.

I picked this up because of the amazing reviews it has earned. I’m glad I did. Desai does a fantastic job of relating the humanities to finance, using classical literature to explain economic and financial theories. This is an immensely relatable and consumable book that anyone with any interest in finance should take up.

Right off the bat Hansen declares that you can’t do 80 hours at work a week and simply expect you’ll do great things. Hansen finds the opposite is true. Focus, balance lead to positive work outcomes, not checking email at 3 am. Well worth the listen/read.
