Story
The Pinkertons believe Rollie “Stoneface” Finnegan was the best agent to ever wear the badge. So does dewy-eyed Pinkerton hopeful and sleuth-in-training Tish Gray, who’s just arrived in Boar Gulch. As co-owner of Boar Gulch’s Last Drop Saloon, Stoneface is content slinging booze into guts instead of bullets. But when his partner Jubal “Pops” Tennyson needs help to rescue his daughter, Stoneface saddles up to take a hard ride into hell. Their destination is Deadwood, Dakota Territory, the notorious mining town and outlaw haven where folks can dig up a gold fortune or dig their own grave.

Spare yourself reading this whole book. The tedious soul searching never ends and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Not up to par for D.G.

Depressing and sad

This book is in the end a disappointment. It is filled with so many tragedies and hardships and the main characters try ro weather them but in the end are crushed by them. It is very well performed and gives a sense of place and culture but to what end. A few pithy comments do not make a great read. Our characters give up in the end and it is a hollow ending after the reader also weathers all that transpires in the book.

The narration was highly annoying
Reviewed: 07-17-20
There was a male and a female narrator. When the female spoke and said her piece the male voice would say “she quipped” or “she said” or whatever the follow up phrase was and it made for a very disjointed read. Sometimes reversed for a male speaker.
The story was pretty good but the ending was tying up loose ends to the nth degree and took itself too seriously.
Overall disappointing.
