Story
Legends speak of wizards with the power to rival Gods. To Hump, it’s just a story. Apprenticed to a wandering wizard, he grew up on the road, following the coin on whatever quest it took them. He always believed his master was just an ordinary hedge wizard, until the old man suddenly died, and his book of spells bound to Hump’s soul. Knowing no other life, Hump takes up his master’s staff and heads out alone into a world of dungeons and monsters. So begins the path of The Wanderer. The White Flame. The Hedge Wizard.

This book does the one thing I kept wishing LitRPG books would do!
NO STAT SHEETS! THANK YOU ALEX! <3
Everything else feels like it fits well into the LitRPG or Fantasy.
I love that the main character is not an over powered protag that "of course is going to win", but a character trying to learn his place. Making friends, having issues that they have to work out. Like real people.
I just can't wait for the 3rd book now.

The Narrator couldn't save it

Michael Kramer, Kate is one of my favorite narrators. He couldn't save this book for me.
I could not get passed the arc of the book. I wanted to like the main character, but could never get there.
Returned the book.

Launching into new territory that the author hadn’t mapped out when he embarked on the series, Nekomonogatari (White) tells the tale of heroine Tsubasa Hanekawa from her own perspective, in her own voice - if that can hold true for a damaged soul who, depending on who you’re asking, suffers from a split personality or a supernatural aberration.

This is my favorite series for the anime adaptation and I like the books as much if not more. If you liked these books and haven't watched the anime then do so.

The book overall is well done with a much lighter focus on game mechanics and stats than most litrpg books. The bad stuff is some sound effects and music completely shatter immersion and the Male reader mispronounces a few fantasy terms which is forgivable but some lines are recorded with a bad echo which just seems lazy. The only other bad thing is the main characters race in game which gets pronounced Toon which is probably a word from another language but it makes me think cartoon whenever it is read. Everything else pretty much is good. Characters seem reasonable and action seems good and the author doesn't draw out sex sequences into an awkward and unrealistic mix of poetry and/or cringe. The book also doesn't seem overly preachy, which seems to happen alot now a days.

Mediocre to bad

I am giving 3 stars instead of 2 because the reader is good and because the writer might have been able to make it more appealing as the story went on. I stopped listening after 1.5/6 and change hours of book. I don't try to fool myself and believe these smutty romance and harem books are going to have amazing plot and character development. The sex scenes were pretty average which to me reads like a mix between cringe worthy, overly poetic, and just there to fill space. I feel that every plot point and interaction felt awkward and every power unearned. The characters that are monstrous all feel a bit dumb or campy. It also all feels a bit rushed like there is trying to be good writing and plot but that might take to long or make the book an unacceptable length. The books of this sort of genre that I consider fun and bearable are often exciting and action filled or are smart and funny. This was neither. Sorry writer for such a harsh review, I'm sure it is harder than I imagine to write well.
