I was hooked early, even though it was a rather tame plot. It wasn’t until the cats and birds that I almost gave up, finding it not plausible. I did stick it out to the end, but that was more because I don’t give up. Lots of unanswered pieces; is there a follow up?

There were moments that I laughed, there were moments when I was frustrated, there were moments when I was physically angry, and there were moments I cried. Although the emotions varied all of those moments brought me to a contemplative state.

I have recommended this book to several others; those working in healthcare, those working in social justice, and anyone else I know that wants to facilitate change for us all.

Thank you for the time and study, thank you for acknowledging those that are working to make changes and those that may need to be striving harder. I did a self check several times while listening to the book; even skipped backwards to let things sink in.

Usually, I have an audible book going on in the background while I am driving, I spend a lot of time in my car, or when working from home, which is much more frequent these days; and, usually, I can multi-task. Not for this offering...

I started to listen while working, but soon realized I had missed a key point, so backed up the recording. Then a little while later it happened again, so I stopped. However, that key point in the Sea Wall story had piqued my interest, so I couldn’t let it go.

I decided I would take lunch early today, restarting the audio. While the Sea Wall story kept me engaged, it was the A Life narration that had me mesmerized. I could understand the pain associated with Sea Wall, but I felt every bit of the pain from A Life. I suppose that is because my Dad’s health is failing and don’t want to think of a future when he is gone, and because I h’ve sat is crisis with my own children.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s rendering was wonderful.

I will listen to this recording again.
