This was not a page Turner. I listened on audible, so I finished it. But if I had been reading, I would’ve closed the book a long time ago.

Arduous to get through. Again, another book tied together in last few pages. Seems to be the norm today.

Tom Hanks was terrific.

Story line slow and predictable.

The ending was contrived and too sweet.

I couldn’t put this book down. Every moment of every day that I had a few minutes to read, I did. As a woman raised in Virginia and living in Williamsburg , the revolution and all the stories since have been a part of my daily existence. It was fantastic to read this as a human story. To see relationships that were never shared in my education was in lightning and real. The authors epilogue is worth the hour plus to hear what is real and what was literary license.
This is also a woman’s story. At a time when women were chattel, Elizabeth Hamilton was a woman who stood firm in her beliefs and became quite a leader in her own right.

The author aptly described the lower part of New York City in the late 1800s. You could almost smell the smells she described, see the people walking the crowded streets and hear the voices yelling and talking with each other. The story line was not unpredictable but moved quickly.

Story line weak. Character development weak.
Offered a picture of life in the Uk among the aristocracy vs the staff and community.
Won’t recommend

When this was completed, my thought was, that was lovely. The way it’s told and the story itself is something we can all recognize no matter what our backgrounds are.
