I love the narrator. The Author has a good grasp of subtle humor. I couldn’t help but chuckle out loud at of some of the fixes the former DCI gets himself into.

Good narration and interesting story
Reviewed: 11-22-24
“Squatter’s Rights” is an entertaining book. I generally prefer to read about places other than where I live because authors typically don’t do it justice. The portion of the Eastern Shore with its Waterfowl Festival, etc., is very accurately described. I was pleasantly surprised at how interested the story kept me during a long solo drive. The narrator was quite good. I plan to listen to the second book at some point.

Wealthy, eccentric Bishop has survived an avalanche, a hijacking, and a kidnapping plot. Did he die for real this time in a tragic accident, or was he helped along to his last headline? Bishop's death shocks everyone, especially Grace, who's so close to escaping the village of Mallard Bay she can nearly taste the lime in a Key West daiquiri.

I was prepared to be disappointed because I grew up in the Mid Shore area. I was pleasantly surprised with the first book and this one did not disappoint either. The story was a little slow in places but overall it was well written and worth the Audible credit. I will probably listen to the third one as well. Nice job by the narrator.

Brilliant Narrator, good story

The story was interesting, but not spectacular. The narration was wonderful as always I still can’t understand why someone who’s written. This many books doesn’t know basic grammar. Her editors let her down when they allowed things to remain in there like “Me and Debi went downstairs.” That is embarrassing. It was not like it was just one time either. I don’t recall that in the previous three books.

I like C.J. Archer normally, but I have given up on this 3 volume set 3/4 of the way through the second book. These characters seem to always be going somewhere and very little else happens-for miles. The first narrator did fine except for her American accents. Marian Hussey is usually pretty good, but this time, even though her accents were off, her voice throughout was grating. It was like she over-acted each part. I kept turning the volume down and messing with the audio settings on my car stereo to keep her from screeching at me. I’d really like to know if the story got any better but not worth the ear bleed.
