About this listen

When private detective Agatha Raisin comes across a severed leg in a roadside hedge, it looks like she is about to become involved in a particularly gruesome murder. Looks, however, can be deceiving, as Agatha discovers when she is employed to investigate a case of industrial espionage at a factory where nothing is quite what it seems.

The factory mystery soon turns to murder and a bad-tempered donkey turns Agatha into a national celebrity, before bringing her ridicule and shame. To add to her woes, Agatha finds herself grappling with growing feelings for her friend and occasional lover, Sir Charles Fraith. Then, as a possible solution to the factory murder unfolds, her own life is thrown into deadly peril. Will Agatha get her man at last? Or will the killer get her first?

This is a reread. A much better result than the first time around. Finding a leg, which later proved to be fake, along the side of the road, leads Agatha to a smuggling ring and a donkey who befriends her. When the donkey is accused of being the instrument of death to a woman, Agatha takes up a crusade to save the wrongly accused animal. High jinks and disaster follow in Agatha's wake when Roy Silver comes to help. Charles has his hands full with a new engagement and James is away, so Aggie feels somewhat alone. I enjoyed this read for better than I did the first time I listened to it. The best thing about this book was having Penelope Keith back as narrator.

This was by far the funniest of her Agatha Raisin books and I have read them all.

Narration perfect. but this story has it all. Less obsessive , and a bit more matured, Agatha is a worthy friend, employer, and heroine.

Agatha at her best

Having a new narrator is hard but after so many books by one it’s even harder. I felt at home with Ms. Keith! I was hesitant to buy the audio because I didn’t enjoy the last ones but once I saw her name I purchased! The book grabs you right in the beginning ....typical Agatha!

Hooray we have our narrator back!

Everything was just right with this Agatha Raisin novel: all the poetic descriptions of the Cotwolds, funny, wacky scenes, and interesting musings by MC Beaton. I am elated that the masterful Penelope Keith narrated it.

Lots of fun listening this book.

Loved a new romantic possibility for Agatha. Will we ever get more info on Charles's engagement or is this the last installment due to MC Beaton's passing? Hopefully there is one more drafted that can carry on the saga.

I love Agatha Raisin

This is my favorite Agatha Raisen mystery yet. Of course, I' m an animal lover...3 dogs, 2 horses, 6 ponies, so I may be biased. l love kitties, too, so Hodge and Boswell are also wonderful.

Best yet!
