A bit scattered but very personable. Some of the first half didnt really interest me and i almost put it down a couple times, but i stuck it out and was rewarded. The last several chapters were well written and the vocal performances are captivating throughout.

Story
Before she became the first transgender person to speak at a national political convention in 2016 at the age of twenty-six, Sarah McBride struggled with the decision to come out—not just to her family but to the students of American University, where she was serving as student body president. She’d known she was a girl from her earliest memories, but it wasn’t until the Facebook post announcing her truth went viral that she realized just how much impact her story could have on the country.

This book is inspiring and empowering. It inspired me to take up the microphone during a protest at my state capitol to speak about my experience as a non-binary person. I think anyone who wants a better understanding of trans issues or trans folks who want to feel inspired should read this. Brilliant, heartfelt, sweet, and tragic. Thank you for inspiring me, Sarah

Story
In 2016, Rob Delaney’s one-year-old son, Henry, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The family had moved from Los Angeles to London with their two young boys when Rob’s wife was pregnant with Henry, their third. The move was an adventure that would bind them even more tightly together as they navigated the novelty of London, the culture clashes, and the funhouse experience of Rob’s fame—thanks to his role as co-creator and co-star of the hit series Catastrophe. Henry’s illness was a cataclysm that changed everything about their lives.

Story
Rob Delaney is a comedy superstar. But if you’re ever watched him steal scenes as Peter in Deadpool 2, binged his streaming series Catastrophe, encountered his raunchy and mischievous Twitter presence, or witnessed the hilarious and painful sharing he does in his stand-up, you already know that. In his first book, he traces his journey from middle-class theater geek to public menace to devoted family man and passionately engaged model citizen.

Rob bears all: heart, soul, butthole. A truly moving and fascinating look into momentous occasions in a man's life. I laughed until I cried twice in the first few chapters. it's so human and relaable that i have a new way of thinking about some of my own experiences and there are several of his stories I will think about for years to come.

Good Story, World's Greatest Narrator
Reviewed: 07-13-22
I originally read this book for the sword and sorcery adolescent magic school. I was captivated and keep re-reading because of the absolutely stellar performance of Nick Podehl. Nick breathes life into a diverse cast of many characters, giving them each distinct and unique voices that you can recognize easily. The story is a little slow to take off, but the depth of characters, the sass and camaraderie, kept me engaged. Just fantastic premise, great twists, just as good the second and third times around.

Story
Julia Serano shares her experiences and insights - both pre- and post-transition - to reveal the ways in which fear, suspicion, and dismissiveness toward femininity shape our societal attitudes toward trans women, as well as gender and sexuality as a whole. Serano's well-honed arguments and pioneering advocacy stem from her ability to bridge the gap between the often-disparate biological and social perspectives on gender. In this provocative manifesto, she exposes how deep-rooted the cultural belief is that femininity is frivolous, weak, and passive.

An eye-opening critique of the way misogyny seems to be at the heart of all gender and sex related bigotry. I'm a non-binsry trans man and it really taught me to look at my femininity and interactions with other queer peoples in new light.

Story
With astounding access to all the key players of the time, including members of Green Day, The Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, and many others, renowned music writer Ian Winwood at last gives this significant, substantive, and compelling story its due. Punk rock bands were never truly successful or indeed truly famous, and that was that - until it wasn't. Smash! is the story of how the underdogs finally won and forever altered the landscape of mainstream music.

Great stuff, very engaging and entertaining. I learned a lot about several great punk bands. There were moments that had me chuckling to mysslf fondly. If you like music, you'll enjoy this book. I wasnt too thrilled with the narrator's mispronunciations or inflection, but it didnt harm the book too much.

Story
Do What You Want's principal storytellers are the four voices that define Bad Religion: Greg Graffin, a Wisconsin kid who sang in the choir and became an LA punk rock icon while he was still a teenager; Brett Gurewitz, a high school dropout who founded the independent punk label Epitaph Records and went on to become a record mogul; Jay Bentley, a surfer and skater who gained recognition as much for his bass skills as for his antics on and off the stage.

The book is an incredible journey nicely tied up with a bow at the end. Sometimes it races to soan broad gaps and sometimes it slows down and enters into a lot of detail for certain anecdotes. As a fan of the band, it made me laugh, think, and towards the end even well up with tears a bit as i thought about how dar they've come and where they still aspire to go.
Narrator was ok, he altered a few words including song lyrics or chapter titles, but did a great job otherwise.
