Story
Every end is also a beginning. I thought I was going to die, and would have if it weren't for Slade. The only way he could save me was to open a rip between worlds. The only way for me to save myself was to go through it. Sometimes, fleeing one dangerous place just brings you to another.

GOAT series
Reviewed: 01-11-25
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this story, these performers, this experience. Blew through the entire series in a week. Waiting for Goldfinch audio, but I have to go ahead and read it now because I can’t wait.

Story
Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow. Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers—supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person's aura—and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren's life in exchange for her friend's safe return.

Distracting Narration
Reviewed: 12-29-24
Why bother with using both male and female voices unless in a duet style? So distracting hearing the male narrator reading the female lines with such a meek and almost insulting tone of voice. Every time the roles switched I was removed from the story. Particularly the (*spoiler*) dog scene where Loren sings him a lullaby, such a tender moment, was completely ruined by the silliness of how it sounded. Also (*spoiler*) the way he said, “baby” was like it was straight out of a cliche 80’s soft-core ?orn. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head. I think I’ll just pick up a hard copy.

Story
There are only two rules to the game. Stay alive. And don’t fall in love. When Ophelia’s sister disappears, there is only one way to save her. Ophelia must enter Phantasma, a deadly contest inside a haunted mansion, and claim its prize—a single wish. Phantasma is a maze of twisting corridors and lavish ballrooms, of demons and temptations. Ophelia will face nine challenges, each more dangerous than the last. There can only be one winner, and the other contestants will stop at nothing to eliminate their rivals.

Good Review

Would have loved a little more world building, especially within the setting of New Orleans. Adored a love story that triumphs over time in a darker setting, but yearned for it to go even darker for Ophelia.
