About this listen

Welcome to the city of Angelthene. We hope you survive.

Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow.

Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers—supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person's aura—and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren's life in exchange for her friend's safe return. Loren will do whatever it takes to get her friend back—even if it means accepting help from Darien Cassel, the leader of the Seven Devils, the most feared Darkslaying circle in the city.

Darien specializes in tracking down demons and criminals that are better off dead than alive, so when he takes a job to track down Loren and finds out she is human—and couldn't hurt a fly if her life depended on it—he decides to protect her instead of turn her in for a reward. As much as Loren doesn't want to admit it, Darien is her best and only chance at finding her friend alive, if she can somehow manage to get along with him—and not fall head-over-heels in love with him in the process, which is far easier said than done.

When more women start disappearing, and some of them slowly turn up dead, Loren and Darien's search for answers takes them deep into Angelthene's corrupt underbelly, where they discover a dark secret that threatens to unravel their world. And when tragedy strikes, Loren learns that love can make an ordinary person do extraordinary things.

From the author of Dreams of Ice and Iron comes a new fantasy romance perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas, Ilona Andrews, and Cassandra Clare.

Should have just read it…

The book was incredible and would recommend this who can to read it, but this is the first and last time I will listen to a book. The female narrator was great- but the guy was awful. Cringy even. I actually frowned every time he started reading.

LOVE THIS STORY

I love the characters and the plot, great story line. Only complaint is the male voice actor isn’t what I imagined. I don’t mind the pace of the narration, but I felt like the male should’ve had a darker voice.

Probably my least favorite FMC

It may be just a preference thing, but the FMC's reliance on other people throughout the book was frustrating. I will not be continuing with the series.

Weird guy reader, not the best work of fiction

Honestly the story started out pretty great! Some fun intrigue and the author’s descriptive words were great. However: the male reader sounded so WEIRD. Imagine trying to have a tough guy voice but it’s more irritating and nasally. Immediately would take you out of the moment. Also, those descriptive words I mentioned? They get so. Repetitive. It was giving wattpad by the end of the book. A lot of things happen way too fast in the plot, and way too slow in others. Also: if you are avoiding smut, don’t even bother with this one. Lots to be found, had to skip a bunch of stuff. Overall, you get what you ask for and if you’re asking for a predictable story with romance and basic characters, you will find it here. Not saying this means you shouldn’t read it, but y’all should be aware.

So much throat clearing.

The FMC constantly and I mean constantly clears her throat. It gave me such bad ick. Like stop. I beg you. Go see a doctor or drink water anything. Also overly descriptive. So so repeatedly descriptive, it’s nice the first couple chapters but after a while it got bogged down.

Idk I probably won’t continue the series. Might dnf at chapter 15….

middle.

story is okay, I think it could have been better had they had a female voice speaking female parts and a male voicing male parts. i didn't love the voices used. all in all it's okay

maybe for me

i liked the different magical species. loved yhe banter with the 3 main friends anf between the mmc and fmc. i didnt carr for the predictable story line and how it seemed to drag on and on with nothing really happening for the plot anf spent more time on the fmc insecurities per chapter.
