About this listen

Welcome to Phantasma.

There are only two rules to the game. Stay alive. And don’t fall in love.

When Ophelia’s sister disappears, there is only one way to save her. Ophelia must enter Phantasma, a deadly contest inside a haunted mansion, and claim its prize—a single wish.

Phantasma is a maze of twisting corridors and lavish ballrooms, of demons and temptations. Ophelia will face nine challenges, each more dangerous than the last. There can only be one winner, and the other contestants will stop at nothing to eliminate their rivals.

Every day the house creates new monsters. But just as Ophelia’s fears threaten to overwhelm her, a mysterious stranger offers her a bargain.

Charming, arrogant and infuriatingly attractive, Blackwell claims he can guide her through the lethal trials ahead. All he asks in return is ten years of her life.

Ophelia knows she shouldn’t trust him. Blackwell doesn’t seem dangerous, but appearances can be deceptive. Worse still, she feels a dark and irresistible attraction drawing them closer and closer.

Her life is on the line. But in Phantasma, the only thing deadlier than losing the game is losing your heart…

A Court of Thorns and Roses meets Caraval in this seductive fantasy adventure. With steamy romance, a sexy morally gray love interest, OCD rep and jaw-dropping twists, Phantasma is perfect for fans of Rebecca Yarros, Nisha J. Tuli and Carissa Broadbent.

I devoured this book. I was left craving for. Wanting so badly to stay within a world that had Ophelia and Blackwell. This was like saw, meets Alice and borderland with like phantoms, devils and necromancers. I absolutely loved every single page of this book. And was such a perfect read to quick off the fall season.

Just what I needed

I really liked this book and really had gotten into it. very smutty! I did feel however that it felt like it came to an end quickly at the very end.

This book was one of my favorites ever, I loved this SO MUCH…. Until the VERY END fell flat fast. And that was heartbreakingly disappointing since up until then it was literally perfect.

Not only was Phantasma a pleasant surprise as a book, but the narrator is easily one of my favorites so far! Laura Horowitz effortlessly gripped me with her storytelling. It was one of the first times I appreciated all the distinct character styles and changes from female to male voices. She is very much an engaging reader and I find myself wanting to listen to her more! The story is also very well developed. If Caraval was a dark romantasy, it would be Phantasma. The games and trials are very different and more devoloped and I really enjoyed the way the main characters, Ophelia and Blackwell, relationship developed. My one issue was that while 90% of the book was well paced, the last 10% felt like it needed a little more room to breathe. A couple more pages to flesh out the ending would have made this a 5 star read for me, but I’d give it a solid 4.5

Thoroughly enjoyed!

Wow! I am almost utterly sp÷eechless after listening to this incredible story! everything about it was so well planned out. The characters had great depth and I loved how their relationship great! If you are looking for a spooky, macabre, Hunger Games meets Addie LaRue (but adults with seggsy time) then this is totally the book for you!

And make sure you stay until the author's note at the end, it is great to hear her perspective!

About the narrator- I have listened to over 50 books Laura has done, and with every new one I say "this one is my most favorite!" Well, this one really is my most favorite!!

The devil was definitely in the details!
