Major Lennox’s character is well drawn—all of them are. Not once was anything implausible. I’ve never come across a plot quite like this. On to the next in the series!

Barbara Rosenblat has the most incredibly varied voices. Truly a master.
One thing, though, I wish someone would edit out the mouth noises and swallowing—if Ms Rosenblat’s characters weren’t so wonderful, and Dorothy Gilman’s stories compelling, I couldn’t bear it. As it is, I could only tolerate it in the car where highway noise helped a little.

Likable characters, interesting premise, good story, smart protagonist, and a relief not to have the tired trope of the male and female leads butting heads! Clean, too. Well written.

Good stories and character development. I came to care about them early on. I didn’t want them to end up!
I hope there are more. I wasn’t crazy about most male characters having gravel for voices. Fortunately, Sebastian’s voice was pleasant.

I savored this book, as I did the first. Genuine dialogue, likable characters, excellent all the way around. I hope there’ll be more in the series!

The writing is superb. How delightful once again to traipse along with my friends in the Thursday Murder Club, shadowing them. Wondering what we’re getting ourselves into next. And I can’t imagine a better creator of their voices than Fiona Shaw!

Alexander McCall Smith is a genius. He has woven a community of characters into a group of friends that I long to spend more time with. The narrator is superb as well.

I couldn’t imagine where this book was going—in the best way! The journey of it was delightful, and I considered a few directions it would probably take. But I enjoyed it so thoroughly, I didn’t stress over it. Just took in the surprises as they came. Very different from the Mrs. Pollifax series, which I also loved.

Unexpected is certainly an apt word! This is well written, exciting, humorous, and well narrated. Every thread is eventually (and unexpectedly) tied. In fact, there are threads I didn’t recognize as threads until the end. Even the main characters didn’t recognize them!
