A very intense listen.. and so necessary
Reviewed: 06-17-25
I had no idea what this was about when I added it to my list. What a shocking and profound story. A must listen. Her descriptions of the realities of war take us to a place inside that we cannot fathom and yet we are given a glimpse of the human spirit within the horror of these realities. Know that it’s a difficult listen and you will be taken to some real edges, and it’s worth it.

I have always loved elephants and had heard the story about them visiting a caretaker who had passed (she mentions this in the story), I have so much of a deeper appreciation for them now.. they are remarkable creatures.
I love love love how Jodi weaves human stories with stories of other earth inhabitants, she educates you with her extensive research and manages to get you to love them even deeper.
What a beautiful story.. yet another one. Bravo.

Story
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Not sure what all the hype is about
Reviewed: 05-01-25
I’m going to listen to the second book because I already added it to my library. I had just finished The Court of Thornes and Roses series (which was epic) and was recommended this one given the Fairy and Fantasy topic. I was disappointed, the story is just okay and the narrator was good but really “breathy” and sometimes hard to listen to, I had to turn the volume down as the heavy breathing was distracting. Not sure I’ll move beyond the second book but I could be surprised. To be determined.

Story
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Entertaining, honest and brave.
Reviewed: 04-21-25
I actually loved this story, it was honest, funny, explorative. Those saying this book was self indulgent clearly haven’t had a midlife crisis or are too afraid to acknowledge and accept the massive internal changes that occur at this time (for both men and women), these critics are not being honest with themselves. This book was brave in that the main character knew to follow her knowing, she was living a lie and chose to follow her truth. I took one star off for two reasons: 1-I could have been okay without the graphics of her smelling her girlfriends pussy and 2-the agenda driven non binary 9 year old, why can’t we just let kids be kids without having to pigeonhole them into a label created by adults, influenced by peers? There’s nothing wrong with allowing children to be in their full expression and loving them as such without having to signal them as an “identity.” It’s nonsense. We don’t figure out who we are for decades..
I loved that it was read by the author, her narration was awesome. And I loved the fact that she was willing to go where few have gone. Overall, I loved it and would recommend it if you don’t mind graphic sex and confronting topics.

I was pleasantly surprised that this one was all about Nesta (I purposely didn’t read the description because I like to be surprised). All the twists and turns of the first four with better narration and incredible character development. I liked the first narrator and this one the best. Really fun series, kept me hooked all the way through! Highly recommend. Also, I’ve never been into fantasy and now have a new genre to explore.
