Story
Jonathan Haidt skillfully combines two genres-philosophical wisdom and scientific research-delighting the listener with surprising insights. He explains, for example, why we have such difficulty controlling ourselves and sticking to our plans; why no achievement brings lasting happiness, yet a few changes in your life can have profound effects, and why even confirmed atheists experience spiritual elevation.

although the author is obviously political, I've never heard it. describe the way he does. props to him for being able to widen his lens and look outside of the narrow scope of either side of the political agendas. outside of that, the book and the information within was extremely interesting, and helpful. for me. it's a book on psychology and the human condition, not necessarily a personal development, but. which I liked!

Great until introducing politics

One of the best brand strategy books
Reviewed: 12-02-21
The reason this is one of the best books out there on branding and strategy, is simply because it's in story format which makes it an absolute delight to listen to! and makes the wonderful ideas and frameworks easy to remember, which will come in handy because they are awesome!
You do have to try your best to see through the authors obvious political leanings. it's pretty annoying in a couple of spots. Whether you lean left or right you have to try and not let it muddy the story and great info. And who knows, if you're left-leaning you may enjoy the political stuff.

I have read tons of marketing books and gotten a lot of great info from them. A lot of theory and great ideas. This book feels more, real world, in a way. There are points in the book where I felt like I was having real-world experience and learning the small nuances of working in the marketing world. I really liked that! Great actionable info!

great principals, a little hard to keep up
Reviewed: 03-18-19
this is a great book, and it has some pretty stout principals that can truly alter your life for the better. they don't come with that work if you're going to try and implement them. The only problem with this book was a lot of his words and the way he form sentences made it slightly difficult for me sometimes to focus. sometimes he would drone on with unneeded vocabulary and I would catch myself thinking about other stuff.
but if you stay focused, maybe write down the principles and your thoughts, you will really get a lot out of the book.
