Story
Five years ago Corin Cadence's brother entered the Serpent Spire - a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

The first 2/3rd of the book were hard to get through, but it is overall worth the slog. Your mileage may vary.

Story
One moment, everything was normal. Then the World Core woke up and slaughtered almost everything alive so it could harvest their Chi. After that, it rebuilt everything and put the survivors in a game-like environment, pitting them against monsters and each other. The rules are different now. Chi power is as important as being able to fight.

Worth sticking with

The story has some unique twists for this type of story. Overall a good use of a credit.
The harem bits just didn't work for me and overall detracted from the story. I would have preferred it if they had distinct chapters that I could skip past, but I just played 2x speed through many of those scenes.

Good by the end, but difficult for the first half
Reviewed: 04-22-20
As others have commented the first half of the book is difficult if you have already read the completionist chronicles.(CC hereafter) The writing is done well enough, but it rehashes the start of the game, and the first CC book to the point that it feels like a clone. Once Sam achieves the title class it picks up and takes off as a story in it's own right. While a major point, the book itself is worth hearing if you can get past that. It adds in some interesting ties to the main CC story that could bring interesting perspectives if developed properly.
Additionally the story has diverged enough from the main CC story at this point that subsiquent books should easily avoid the problem above. I will pick up book two when it comes out.
