A study of credibility is a messy proposition.
Reviewed: 06-01-25
Ronan does a fantastic job remaining impartial, and ensures that as often as possible all perspectives are sought out and included.
These relationships all connected through threads of addiction, dysfunction, abuse, tragedy, “fantastic” truth and lies by more than just the central character. Ronan’s calm through difficult scenarios projected towards him personally and a daughter’s work to protect her mental health demonstrates incredible strength of character, when hearing so many stories by people whose character are questionable. A study of credibility is a messy proposition.

Three new characters, that you build your connection with quickly. You’re invested at the outset.
Then you like Steve, want to know who’s behind this, and keep his daughter in law safe.
Fun plot and the clues and links were all there. Well done

Story
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Hannah’s skillful writing has you emotionally invested by threads of love and sympathy for these two sisters, all the while telling the historic and tragic story of occupied France by the Nazi’s in WW II. There is so much love in this story, you feel it build, and by the last chapters your throat is tight with it. Exquisitely pulled together with joy.

Dragged Repetitive and Superfluous Content.
Reviewed: 11-10-23
To get to the point of the story, in this case her ascension, you must weed through a fog, of mind numbing character’s internal dialogues, repeatitive one note conversations that moves the story along at a snails pace, two of the final chapters were just one long sex scene that used every cliche. I felt like I read my aunts 1978 romance novel with the pirate on the cover.
I looked forward to this book so much, JA is a much better writer than this.
I skipped a lot and missed nothing… this could have been a great 8 hour story instead of a drawn out 14 hour one.
Spoiler Alert, she beats up a significant character and ascends. It takes 14 hours, and the consequences of both are not realized until the next book. I think I’ll save my next credit.
Positive: the ‘eeeeether’ repeats are gone.
So disappointing since her other books are so good.

I wanted love it so badly, but I could get through it
Reviewed: 07-04-23
I bought and read the actual book Cutting for Stone and it was brilliant.
While the writing is just as beautiful it drags and I’m sorry, the author could have benefited from an additional narrator, and a seasoned one. His voice is lovely but it was problematic at times.
I wanted to love it so badly. I read all the hype, perhaps that was the downfall…Cutting for Stone was a gem out of no where, and grabbed us. I will try reading it and see if it is better that way.

The narration is amazing! It makes the writing better. The repetition of the same love scenes, the same remarks over and over is nauseating. But the story line, the relationships between kingdoms, mortals, gods and primals is well planned out and if you read the previous series, it’s pulling it all together in this prequel. Jennifer is a great story teller, some areas of the novel seem lazy, but the story is really good. I can’t wait for the next book 3 A Fire in the Flesh. How does it all come together, because we know it will, but how!
