About this listen

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her beloved Flesh and Fire series…

The only thing that can save the realms now is the one thing more powerful than the Fates.

After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals.

Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training. While his most favored Revenant is insistent that she is nothing more than a lie, Kolis’s erratic nature and twisted sense of honor leave her shaken to the core, and nothing could’ve prepared her for the cruelty of his Court or the shocking truths revealed. The revelations not only upend what she has understood about her duty and the very creation of the realms but also draw into question exactly what the true threat is. However, surviving Kolis is only one part of the battle. The Ascension is upon her, and Sera is out of time.

But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands.

But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

Worst book of the series

This really felt like a filler book. There was very little plot, and a whole lot of events that didn’t further the story. The few plot moving events could have easily taken up a few chapters in one of the other books and been much more engaging. I actually switched to the paper book so I could skim past all the irrelevant parts.

A little disappointed, not her best work.

I really had high hopes for this book. It was a whole lot of book for not much content. I can’t remember ever feeling bored with these series before, but I did with this book.

It felt like she could have condensed 75% of the book in half, instead of drawing it out and rushing through the last 25% of the book.

Meh

This is one of my favorite series! But this book didn’t match the others. It was repetitive listening to Sera’s inner monologue and she never seemed to grow through it. I found myself getting annoyed and wanting to skip ahead (I did not).
I reread all JL books but I will likely not reread this. I may skip to the parts that actually speak to the storyline if I do go back. With that said, I am still very interested in how this story will progress. I look forward to the other releases coming.
JL, I am still in awe of your storytelling and creativity. You are truly an inspiration to those who write or wish to do so. Ty for all your books especially this series.

Waited so long for so little

I wish wish wish this would’ve spent more time building individual friendships/relationships. Too much time in one place (if you’ve read you know where) with seemingly little purpose to it. Kept me hooked but after waiting a while for this release I’m just left thinking “could the next book have been incorporated into this one??” No part of me wants Sera/Ash to be done but we know we get more of them in FBAA… so why not finish the FaF series here? Dunno. Still going to read the next one though.

Book 3

I enjoyed the light in the flame a lot more. This felt like a connecting book in the series and there’s a lot to be said. I really hate when the characters are separated- felt like that dragged on too long and could’ve been shortened.

Kolis Makes me want to vomit

I great continuation to the story, lots of back info important in Blood and Ash. Probably should come with a Trigger Warning for DV, ready for more plot!

A journey

I loved this book. It was a nice cool down after the chaos of the last book. Can’t wait for the finale.

Just why

I loved this series and thought that Sera and Ashe’s story was better and stronger then Poppy and Hawk’s. But I was just left disappointed and mad after this book. Like all the reviews say, this was a filler book nothing big or major happening and with the story not advancing in any significant way. It also features a troupe I detest with the MCs being held captive for the majority of the book. The thing is that we as readers already know what happens to these characters bc of FBAA, thus it’s the authors job to make the story engaging and refreshing to keep us wanting to know more about a story we already know major keep points of. Unfortunately this book did not do that. It was filled with Sera’s internal dialogue where she repeats the same thing multiple times and there should also be trigger warnings for this book. I just hope the next books are better and this story doesn’t get dragged on for no reason bc the other two books of this series are really good.

Wow.

This story, how everything is coming together… I’m mind blown. I love this story and wish I had more of it to devour now. Thank you JLA!

A great third installment, but very different from the first two.

I’m going to get right into it. I really enjoyed this book, I didn’t really get annoyed with Sera having an inner monologue, and I thought JLA did a great job explaining Kolis, but I actually enjoyed expected him to be way worse. Not bad, but I expected a little more. chapters 30 and on pick back up and you do regain some of the story, but not a whole lot.

I’m personally not mad at all because I like a lot of detail. I’m still just as eager for the 4th and final installment of Sera and Ash’s story.
