It’s a solid overview on how stories are told in all sorts of media not just games

It was a solid book that explores an over on how stories are made in the traditional sense of the word and how these can be implemented or rewritten to work in a game setting

Now I want to be very clear this is an amazing book it feels like a proper detective novel with magic being a key part into the story. While the full magical system and society isn’t deeply explored it gives you just enough to understand how and why everything works the way it does. The only complaint I can give to the book is that the reader shifts around in his chair and it comes very clearly into the audio. Now I can skim over it treating it as Protagonist telling the story to someone else in his office. But for some that can be a problem. Overall great book just some weird stuff done during the audio recording

Story
As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo. But there is a ray of sunshine in his life—literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo. Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe. At least, that's been the case so far . . . Now Nico is being plagued by a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the lowest part of the Underworld.

It’s certainly a book in the world of Percy Jackson.
Reviewed: 10-06-23
While I’m glad the plot thread lingering at the end of the final Appalo book as been tied up and everyone’s Journey was ended well. It doesn’t feel like a Percy Jackson book.
The weird mixture of modern day and Ancient Greek doesn’t come across and despite the Journey involved going to the worst place in the world. It doesn’t feel as rough as it should be. And a lot of the tension was taken over by the repeated talks about Will and Nico’s relationship and how they feel the need to point out there gay and that’s okay.
While the message of the story is good I feel like it could have been written better and some parts trimmed or reworked to make the story smoother feeling and impactful.

It is unfair to say this was a bad book and there are elements of which I can see why this was a captivating read. However be it my personal preference or not the intended audience I can’t say I recommend the book. Mainly do to certain elements of the story feeling uneeded and makes me dislike a large portion of the main characters we follow. So if your interested in this story I’d recommend seeing the movie. It be a better experience.

Story
Legends abound of the glorious - or infamous - deeds of the emperor's sons. Yet almost nothing is known of Alpharius, the most mysterious of them all, for the lord of the Alpha Legion is unparalleled in the art of obfuscation. Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma - until now. But when the tale comes from the serpent’s mouth, where do the lies end and the truth begin?

Assuming this book is actually the accounts of Alparhius and not a big misdirection as is the nature of Alpharius and his Legion it’s a fantastic read. It gives a great insight into the Primarch his tactics and his Legion. Alongside hints too the machinations of his fellow Primarch’s. If your an Alpha Legion fan it’s a must read

If you want a quick guide to state monsters
Reviewed: 06-02-23
It’s an alright book listed several monsters from every state but be it poor research or just the cryptid scene itself a lot of the monsters in this book are variations of Lake monster werewolf and lizard creatures. You will find many of the same type of monster even not the actual same with Mothman appearing in roughly 3-5 chapters. Overall good for a digestible guide of monsters but there are probably better options for monsters

A good book only if your familiar with 40k and even then perhaps not
Reviewed: 05-15-23
So while I like the book it’s not for everyone. The story was fine but I feel it had a more interesting premise with the political feud that seemed to be a starting point for the book. And I hate to say it if your familiarity with the setting is good enough you can easily tell what the plot is going to be based solely on the cover.
While I do fine the characters interesting and sympathetic it loses a lot once the focus tends towards the horror. Overall though I think it was an alright book but had the makings for an even better one. This isn’t a book for newcomers to the setting and for lot time or dedicated fans of the setting you won’t get as much enjoyment as you should

When best-selling horror author Sam McGarver is invited to spend Halloween night in one of the country's most infamous haunted houses, he reluctantly agrees. At least he won't be alone; joining him are three other masters of the macabre, writers who have helped shape modern horror. But what begins as a simple publicity stunt will become a fight for survival. The entity they have awakened will follow them, torment them, threatening to make them a part of the bloody legacy of Kill Creek.

The story itself is well told and I could believe it’s a welcome read for any horror fan. Especially with the abundance of other horror movies shoutouts however I the Narrator while talented has moments where you can tell he’s not giving his most prominent when he’s supposed to be shouting out the words. As well as the Character of TC morre who I couldn’t really enjoy do to her very combative and rude personality which took me out of the book at times. Overall it’s a fine story brought down by a few things

Story
His vengeance against the gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive...and teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series - satisfying combat, breathtaking scale, and a powerful narrative - and fuses them anew.

It follows the beats of the game but is inferior story
Reviewed: 12-21-22
While the book is well written and is read by the voice actor of Mimir in the game it doesn’t have the same beats or emotional moments the game does. So things are shortened or removed entirely for example Atreus yelling at Sindri and the full story behind his name. While other stuff was added to give a little more depth to certain moments. In general I’d recommend this as just a primer on God of War 2018 if you haven’t played the game in a while and want to remember what happened without replaying the game.
