This Story, as Told, Has No Redeeming Qualities
Reviewed: 10-26-23
The plot/story itself is not clear or apparent until towards the end of the book. The author seemed to be particularly interested in describing sex in an overblown manner. I do not recommend this book. There are so many other books out there on WWII that do have a story to tell.

This is a book for the ages
Reviewed: 07-20-20
This is a book for the ages. It explains what many intuitively understand but cannot explain with the clarity and completeness of the picture shown to the reader of this book. The author is so articulate and explains so well while never stepping away from the truth. The ring of truth is apparent in every sentence. This is a really amazing painting of what we as a Nation have seen over the past four years. Mental unfitness for the position of President of the United States is made clear, along with the very great danger to this Nation posed by this sitting President and the enablers who surround him.

Story
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

A Wonderful Book
Reviewed: 03-06-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this book to all of my friends. The story is authentic and truthful. The backdrop of WW II is shown in its human condition and the effects of war are seen so clearly through the lives of characters of young age, through older ages, on both sides of the conflict. It is well written with an underlying compassion for the human condition.
What did you like best about this story?
Character development. Not cluttered or expansive but clear and true.
Have you listened to any of Zach Appelman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to other performances by Zach Appelman. The reader's voice, pace, and diction were so excellent in the delivery of the text.
Any additional comments?
I loved the book.

Story
Maximizing the trader's state of mind is the key to successful results. Conflicts, contradictions, and paradoxes in thinking can spell disaster for even a highly motivated, astute and well-grounded trader. Mark Douglas, an industry consultant since 1982, sends the message that a "thinking strategy" will profoundly influence a trader's success rate. Douglas addresses five very specific issues to give traders the insight and understanding about themselves that will make them consistent winners in the market.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book was not for me because I wanted the author to get to the point, after the point or points of the book/approach were identified. I didn't find a point or focus being addressed by the book. Another person could find the book to be enlightening but, that did not happen in my experience. I was very impatient after the first 7 chapters.
What was most disappointing about Mark Douglas’s story?
I listened to the first 7 chapters. Had I had the book and a magic marker, I might have underlined about two sentences! As it happened, the author went on and on about psycho-babble, lint in the belly button, etc. I became irritated and then listened to the first few sentences or paragraphs of each remaining chapter. It was not the book for me.
Which character – as performed by Walter Dixon – was your favorite?
N/A
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Trading in the Zone?
I would not publish the book.

Story
In this paradigm shifting book, Dale Bredesen, MD, offers real hope to anyone looking to prevent and even reverse Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline. Revealing that AD is not one condition, as it is currently treated, but three, The End of Alzheimer's outlines 36 metabolic factors (micronutrients, hormone levels, sleep) that can trigger "downsizing" in the brain. The protocol shows us how to rebalance these factors using lifestyle modifications like taking B12, eliminating gluten, or improving oral hygiene.

What would have made The End of Alzheimer's better?
I didn't listen to this book precisely because it started out by covering all the bad things that happen with dementias. The reader may be very good but he has a deep voice and the text was so down and ugly that I decided I could not stand to listen. I cannot understand why such a book doesn't start out with possible remedies and would go light on the description of horrid details of decline. There is really no excuse for dwelling on what has already been said in the popular media by many experts and others without expertise. I'm returning this book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dale Bredesen again?
I have no idea at the moment.
Would you be willing to try another one of Marc Cashman’s performances?
Yes.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No.
Any additional comments?
This book was awful. The tiny part I listened to.

Story
Popular nutritionist Nora Gedgaudas returns with advice that may sound counterintuitive: eat fat to burn fat. In her new book, Primal Fat Burner, she explains the benefits and science behind a ketogenic diet: It switches your metabolism from running on sugars to running on healthy fats. As Gedgaudas reveals, numerous studies in recent years have refuted the previously promoted anti-saturated fat and anti-cholesterol agenda. Now, Gedgaudas explains, science shows that fat isn't a no-no but rather a yes-yes.

Where does Primal Fat Burner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
My problem, about 3 hours into the audible book, is that no references have been/are mentioned. I don't expect to hear the references, of which there should be scores if not hundreds, to support all of the numerous statements the author makes as if they are undisputed facts. But, the speaker could mention that references are provided in the book or online. I don't know if references are given.
The author goes back to Lucy, the famous hominid of six plus million years ago, to fashion her thesis, with support of ancient paleontological and archeological evidence, but without references. Thus, the listener is jerked from one "scientific" statement to another, all the while waiting for the author to get to the subject of the book (or to the subject that this reader was expecting to find in the book).
The other very irritating feature, so far, in listening to this book is that the speaker mispronounces a few significant words, including the name of important fats. This announces to the listener that the author did not review the work for quality and soundness before it was made available as an audible book. It also lets the listener know that the reader did not prepare to read the book by searching for unfamiliar words and seeking out guidance from the author or, in this case, a scientist familiar with the subjects covered, before recording those passages.
I am still enthused about what might be found in this book regarding a really good Paleo diet, so I will continue to listen. I plan to do this in comparatively short bursts so I don't get too irritated, should the lack of allusion to references (to be found elsewhere) and lack of preparation continue.
What did you like best about this story?
I haven't finished the book yet.
How could the performance have been better?
Detailed above
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Pissed me off.

NO for Josh Axe
Has Eat Dirt turned you off from other books in this genre?
no
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I don't specifically remember the narrator but I think he did not have the vocabulary down correctly.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Eat Dirt?
It seems that Josh Axe cribbed from other authors, copying or paraphrasing without citation. The text seemed to jump from one source to another, but, again, without citing the source. I've read on this subject and I recognized some of the material. He did a great disservice to the Budwig Protocol. This guy is an idiot in my book.
Any additional comments?
